Fabia vRS performance feels "nothing special"

Featured Replies

I must admit, I feel slightly disappointed now that the car is run in, it just doesnt feel as quick as I thought it would. And I cant afford a remap. Maybe I should of bought a faster car to start with. Or am I just used to it?

Actually, strangely enough, even though I know it is [a lot] quicker than my old car, my old 1.4 Micra used to feel a lot quicker than this does. Anybody else feel the same? Perhaps I was unlucky and got an underpowered model? Really though it doesnt feel any quicker than any other medium sized 2.0-litre car.

I can imagine why the micra felt quicker... anything to do with less refinement, more road noise, more shaking etc etc? Which I believe makes speed seem faster (like when I was doing 70 in a transit van, felt bloody quick - in the furby it feels like I'm going tractor pace)

If you can't afford a remap why not go for one of those cheap tuning boxes? Will give a little more oomph in the short run. :D

How much does a re-map cost?

On a Briskoda group buy it comes in at under

 This thread looks quite similar to the one you posted a couple of months ago, only that time it was for different reasons if my memory serves me

I think it's a case of you "getting used to the power". If you were to get into a 2.0 16V petrol engined car you will notice how quick the vRS is.

I got used to driving my 200bhp Corrado after a year of ownership. Suprisingly the Ibiza TDI feels quicker on the road.

You do get used to any performance. Stops feeling "special" day to day, you either need more power or a distraction like stereo's \ gadgets in the car.

Or, you buy something quicker (which the novelty will wear off eventually) or something very "different" that is special for other reasons...

it's abit of both I think. Yeah you have probably got used to it by now, though I have to say mine still surprises me (might have something to do with my 28 day ban?).

Jason is right about the more refined car! I used to have a saxo VTS (I know it's shameful) and I test drove the Cooper S now on paper they both do 0-60 in 7.2 but the saxo always felt quicker. Partly because you had to really thrash is to get it there where as the mini is more sedate.

You could buy a quicker car but then 6 months later your have the same problem. Maybe you could change you driving style so it's not always the same.

You sure you're not simply going through a 'mid ownership type crisis' here Paul?

I've found with all the cars I've owned in the past, that I've got a bit bored with the same thing day after day, and as a consequence changed and wasted a LOT of money, and changed again, and so on.

Usually took me about 6 months or so for that feeling to creep in. Not so sure it's going to happen this time however ,as I'm still as chuffed and proud of it now, as I was 4 1/2 months ago

Trouble is Paul, with your obvious limited funds...what do you buy to replace it with?

You'll lose a shed load of money, and possibly feel the same again in another 6 months!

My dragon tuning box will be available soon, and that may put the smile back on you face :D Not as good or anywhere near as expensive but a good start!

spent most of a recent trip to bury trying to beat mpg records by 'driving miss daisy' -comfortable, smooth etc but above all pretty boring! got back and returned to normal driving mode, felt like i had a new engine - pulled nicely and was a hellovalottafun.

this is due to one of two things

1)driving slowly rejuvenates the engine so it becomes quicker (*******s i think)

2)it was the change of driving style,i'd forgotten what it felt like to drive swiftly (this i think is more likely)

SO......spend the next couple of days watching the mpg and trying to get summat decent then when the weekend comes just go for it- i am sure you'll be happy with it then :D

probably the same psychological theory that makes old tracks you havent heard for a while seem so much better?

I've found with all the cars I've owned in the past, that I've got a bit bored with the same thing day after day, and as a consequence changed and wasted a LOT of money,

Maybe we could organise some sort of car-swapping group, where members temporarily exchange cars when they fancy a change?

Would work out cheaper than a trade-in...

I think maybe you are right, I am getting used to it. Thinking about it, I drive in such a style that I dont think I've seen ANYONE overtake me almost since I had it, and I guess I couldnt say that about my old car.

I think Mr Devon may have been right, the Micra was much noisier and less refined and much more "raw" than the Fabia, and to extract the performance from its 16v engine you had to rev it and it really was quite noisy. Even at maximum revs the Fabia could not be described as noisy.

I think you guys are right, I would probably get bored with something else. For a little while I was thinking of chopping it in for a CTR, but I couldnt really afford the fuel bills and insurance. I go for pointless drives in the vRS because I know I can afford it when it does 40+ MPG. If I drove a CTR the way I drove the vRS I'd probably get about 10 MPG!

Rob..always fancied a proper go in a Smart! Look fun to me! Like the look of that new 4 thingy that's on the telly too

Drove a Smart around Ty Croes paddock a couple of years ago and was quite impressed.

I must say, i've felt the same. sometimes get home and think it doesn't feel that quick. then my dad, who doesn't drive it as much as me, will go out and say how quick it is.

I think you just get used to the performance. had same with scooby, octy vrs. I've found that if i bimble around for a while, get used to that, then go for it, it seems fine. Also bimbling helps fuel cons. not that i'm that bothered.

Worst i've had on a tankfull was 43ish :)

Cheers

Jonno(must get a top fuel funny car :D ).

I've been catching the train to my "main" office and only using the car for longer trips, also trying to keep it over 40mpg (it's not a diesel! :D) on business miles.

When I actually *drive* it at weekends it does feel quicker again.

Ah, the ForFour's just a tarted up Mitsubishi Colt...bit of a fashion statement rather than being of any real use...

Besides which, after driving around in a 44bhp Smart, even your C5 will feel like it's going to break the land speed record! Though I suspect the Smart smells nicer... :P

Rob.

There you are then Paul..the group therapy team has done it's magic on you AGAIN! :D

Now shurup and keep having fun in the knowledge that you CAN, and will be saving loads of money into the bargain.

Will let you know when my tuning box is up for grabs! Won't be asking too much for it.

Cheers CJ, although for some reason I've never fancied sticking a tuning box on it, always prefer to do things properly like.

Time to save up for a remap me thinks. Actually, there are too many things I want to do to it! :D

Didn't know that  about it being based on the Colt! Only seen it on the telly! That roadster is very good if a tad expensive apparently.

What you on about...ref 'the smell'..you trying to tell me something even my friends won't say!

Think Mitsubishi and Smart did some kind of joint-venture on the platform' date=' with Smart styling it to make it look like a bigger version of the ForTwo.

It does look well-styled inside if a bit quirky from the outside, but the Colt would probably be better VFM.

Everyone I know who's test driven a Roadster has bought one, so they must be doing something right...either that or the dealerships putting something in the coffee... ;)

The sewage? Or did you manage to get that cleaned up properly? :D

Yep - *******s it is. If you want your engine to pull better, go out and thrash the nuts off it once in a while - like a track day  Burns off deposits and improves fuel burn efficiency.

Although I have to say - that's petrol engines - not sure if diesels behave the same...

Well a Jabba remap will give you somewhere in the region of 40% more power - should get the juices flowing again!

Ohhh...that smell!! Sorry..it's my age and fading memory! Yeah got a spray can of Dettol..rinsed the car first, then sprayed it on all over. Got some strange looks from passers by

It alledgedly kills 99% of all known bacteria AND virus's! Sprayed a bit on a few local parasites that happened to be walking past, but sadly noticed that they are still alive!

Anyway, rinsed the car off, quick polish, and it's gleaming now :D

Smells a bit like a mobile treatment room though!

I think its just the power delivery if you scragg it it doesnt "feel" fast... but a glance at the speedo says otherwise :D

i have to say i drive my car like a granny 99% of the time but when i do boot it.. to overtake or whatever... it puts a big :D on my face... even after a year.
