Fabia vRS performance feels "nothing special"

Featured Replies

I was thinking the same about the car feeling a bit flat.... then I dorve our ".0l 145bhp mondeo then I knew what the words falt mean.... just getting used to it

Mine seem to vary day by day.

But with the changable weather were having recently perhaps its not too suprising. Hell of a job sometimes keeping mine in a straight line if its just rained (which is has alot recently). But if the suns been out all moring you can fell the old heatsoak spoiling the fun a bit.

i have got used to mine recently,(when i'm not running on 3 cylinders)turned the revo off for a day, driving in stock mode felt very underpowered, i mean a poultry 180 bhp!!!

car is well and truly staying in 98 RON mode from now on

You just get used to the experience. My Golf GTi Turbo (Petrol) was like an intergalactic rocketship when I first stepped inside it 6 years ago. Went like sh. off a shovel, but now just seems normal. I test drove a Fabia vRS (29 miles on the clock) 2 weeks ago and was just astonished at how much faster than my Golf it is (is it really?). I drove my mates 5L Chimerera a few months ago and thought it was no faster than my Golf, but Jeez it's much faster really. I also tried an Audi S4, and it seemed "quite" quick too.

My opinion is that it's difficult to judge "quickness" unless you are outside the car, trying to catch up!

Certainly just the 'getting used to it' theory. Mine sometimes feels slow, but then I play with things and leave them all behind, so I know it isn't slow. :D The power delivery of the diesel lump also helps in that feeling as it is so relaxed and refined. The last couple of days though, I've been having the problem Ross talked about. Keeping the damn thing in a straight line. Don't ya just love torque steer. ;)

certainly true,my cordoab 16v felt quicker than the VRS in standard mode, and probably not far off the pace, the vrs just does it alot easier, the cordoba inturn felt quicker then the 1.816v ibiza i had before it,it just didn't need the nuts ringing off it to get there.

My 'al mate has an Audi A4 Avant 1.9 TDi Sport, this is a quick car, it has the 130bhp TDi engine installed (Audi don't use the 150 TDi for some unknown reason). Just imagine how fast a Skoda Fabia would be with the 130 TDi engine!

(I know, I know, don't correct me on this :) )

The common thread here of " got used to it " now what.

When you start to gett the feeling of " it's just an ordinary car ".

Look around at the REAL ordinary cars, ' repmobiles ' and ' Tonka toys ' loads on the road, then when you get home, stand back from your vRS, and remember that you actually own something that is still ' fairly unique ' it has the reverse snob value ( not Bm or Merc). Get back in the car, find a nice piece of private road, then blast the c$*p out of it.

You'll probably then think, yup i've got something I want, and it'ss all mine :D

I'm fortunate, that i have access to another car to drive, and once i start to think " ordinary " , i just borrow that for a short 10 -15 mins and then get back into the Furby and re appreciate it.

I must admit I still do love the car, I dunno sometimes I just think its not that quick. But certainly the fact its so quiet, smooth and refined doesnt help this.

I'm also starting to think the car does not really reward the thrash style of driving, preferring to use its impressive midrange to deliver its speed in a relaxed, but kick in the back thrust. It definitely seems more fun between 2500-3500rpm but obviously I guess a remap will change this.

I have plans for the car, I just dont know when I can afford to do them :(

I think you need to nip down to your local Hertz/Eurocar or where-ever and hire a Fiesta or Corsa 1.2 for 40 quid or whatever it is for a day. ;)

Hehe, no thanks

I have never thought my vRS feels fast.

From Day 1, Day 2 (when I got it REVO'd) to today (day erm... I don't know... Maybe a month later?)...

BUT

When I put my G-Tech Performance Meter in (which on the same bit of road gave my Polo GTi 8.7 seconds 0-60 (which is bang on the figure VW quote)) it gave me 6.67s to 60!

Now this is possibly a little bit optimistic (I think due to the suspension not being solid so the front end rises a little under hard acceleration), but it's not going to be that far out...

It's a very quick car since the remap, it's just that it's so smooth and quiet, I just don't notice how quick it is! (hence me buying an Origin b2 lol).

Keeps up with a mates tuned R32 (265bhp) and another mates Mitsubishi FTO (200bhp) with no real effort on dual carriageways etc. (up to the speed limit of course officer).

Why not look into doing the EVRY Mod or whatever it's called. Go on Foxy's website (do a google for Foxy and EVRY)... Sticking a resistor in a plug is probably the easiest performance mod and it gives a definite increase in power!
