Deals at the dealers

Featured Replies

When people bought their cars new what deals did they manage to get from the dealers. I went to my local dealer and they didn't have anything which made me want to sign on the dotted line there and then. I would have thought like most my dealers in my town they would offer free insurance of 0%........Anybody have luck with getting good deals?

I'm guessing with the proximity of the new registration date a lot of them will have already hit their sales targets for this period, which might make it tougher...

2 factors which make dealers offer free insurance or alike deals

firstly like peugeot and citroen the cars are car and will go down in price quicker than rain in a heavy storm. Also their volume of production is greater hence they have to shift them.

Skoda sell a good package that is in high demand at a low (compaired to the rest of the VAG group) price.

I did have a peugeot and I had 2 years free insurance got a great p/x value and an extra

So what I'm trying to say is this free insurance and alike offers are good in the short term but long term you will most likely be left with a car that goes down in value badly

Free insurance is also used to sell relatively high insurance group cars to young people. Hence you get a lot of "hot" hatches bought with a year's free insurance by someone young with no NCB who then has to sell it the next year as they can't afford the renewal.

I spoke to my local dealer and he basically said there were no discounts as the car was in demand and they don't need to offer that carrot.

In the end I went with drivethedeal.com and paid

Yep thats what i thought, they don't need to add deals because of the demand :( . Its not that i can't afford the insurance or payments its that i don't want to pay more than i have to! I have been looking around at all kinds of cars, theres just too much to choose from! hmmm Decisions Decisions

Think wisely about the options you specify. I was once in the trade and only specify the extras you cant live without as when it comes to PX the things you paid hundreds of pounds for will only equal a small premium in the dealer offered PX price. Its nice to have cruise and heated seats but do you REALLY want them??

Just ordered a Red Fab vRS std no extras

.....and heated seats but do you REALLY want them??
Wouldn't be with out mine...its a cold wind that blows up yer jacksy! ;)

Not always so. The free insurance deals that I know of (2 of my own, my girlfriends and my parents) have all offered 5 years no claims at the end of the free policy if you renewed. After a further year you are free to take it elsewhere. I've been driving with my own car for 4 years, had a minor bump in the first year yet I presently have 7 years no claims. :D

I couldn't really do without these extras, so I was willing to wait.

It's been the longest 4 weeks of my life, so far!!

That just won't wash with a lot of insurance companies. A standard question on a proposal form is 'How many years NCB have you earned?' - quite different from asking 'How many years NCB have you been given by your insurer?'.

Oh I see you offer free Insurance...I'm a cash buyer

...sorry you only available on finance, our finance.

Oh I see you offer 0% on all cars.

...Only on some as part of this promotion.

Can I go for a test drive?

...Now? Well okay but only for 10 minutes maximum.

Deals are worth nothing...I'm the worst at getting a discount, but I'll rip apart any offers...10yr warranty, great but it's useless if you go bust tomorrow so give me somthing tangable. Cup of tea lovely, thanks where do I sign...

You know we went out to buy a car the day the above quotes were made, but this one garage pillock put us of the brand completely...don't employ chavs as car salesmen...it wasn't a Skoda place...it had attitude...nigh on bloody useless.

Stopped of a Citroen aswell and was told the Octaiva RS was a really nice car and easily chipped to 300+...had to real him back a bit then and remind him he was selling us the car, but there C2 TDi really goes like poop on the shovel, might of told a white lie when I said the remapped furby keeps up with a v8 MG...but he was silenced long enough to slip past the freight wagon known as the C8.

I want a cheep fabia vRS - nothing extra basic car in yellow - where is the cheapest?

I don't think this is a problem, if you move to a new insurer they ask you to send in proof of no claims. The letter clearly states the amount of no claims applicable at the end of the policy. If they accept this as proof then they don't have a leg to stand on.

They also ask...without fail... if you have had any accidents or convictions in the last 5 years.

My younger son was given an extra one year NCB by CIS for having a Pass Plus certificate. When he had to change to another insurer having bought a sports car, that extra NCB was immediately disallowed since it self-evidently had not been earned. The extra bonus is nothing more than a marketing ploy/gimmick used by some insurers.

Get on the phone, plenty of dealers to call.
