They also ask...without fail... if you have had any accidents or convictions in the last 5 years.

Not if you shop carefully, some ask for convictions in the last 5 years but accidents in the last 3 years only.

My younger son was given an extra one year NCB by CIS for having a Pass Plus certificate. When he had to change to another insurer having bought a sports car, that extra NCB was immediately disallowed since it self-evidently had not been earned. The extra bonus is nothing more than a marketing ploy/gimmick used by some insurers.

Fair enough Denis, its good to be made aware of the possibility. Me and SWMBO have done a total of three insurance company swaps with these 'unearned' NCB's wthout it ever being a problem or infact it ever being mentioned.

Would they not be suspicious if you were, say, 18 but had 5 years NCB? :rubchin:

What is cost price for a Fab vRS. Did a trawl of dealers yesterday. Lowest I could get for a silver one was

Rondo

Paid 11250 for mine with black magic paint, only got book price for my Octy with Parking sensors + cruise. and ditched the steels for alloys. ( high miles on it )

Wasn't bothered as the dealer made no profit on Furby, he was an excellent dealer, but I knew he would recoup profit on my Octy from the forecourt. ( it was only there for 2 weeks then gone )

All electric in Halesworth have 1 vrs pre reg no miles

When people bought their cars new what deals did they manage to get from the dealers. I went to my local dealer and they didn't have anything which made me want to sign on the dotted line there and then. I would have thought like most my dealers in my town they would offer free insurance of 0%........Anybody have luck with getting good deals?

just picked up my 2005 model fabia vrs paid 11700 for it :

As for insurance NCB, it depends on the company. After a series of minor claims I had lost all but 1 year of my NCB. I insured with Elephant using their 10 month bonus accelerator policy. I did this for 3 policies earning 3 years NCB in 2.5. At my last renewal Elephant where not very competitive, but I found that about half of the companies I phoned specifically asked if I had been on 10 month policies as soon as they heard my current insurer was Elephant. Those that asked this woul only allow me 3 of the 4 years NCB that Elephants renewal certificate indicated.

Those that asked this woul only allow me 3 of the 4 years NCB that Elephants renewal certificate indicated.

And quite rightly so.

Why should the rest of us have to drive claim-free for 36 months when you can play Elephant's "system" and get the same NCB in 6 months less ?

Hehe i did :) - but on the whole you do work out paying more because if you devide the premium by 10 and take the 12 month premium and devide by 12, works out more expensive to do it by 10 (although looks cheeper than 12 - well it is) but you get less for your money.

Also dont choose elephant - useless bunch of 118 call centre handlers

Facelift 54 Black Magic (usual 1 yr tax and FULL tank petrol) for

Not always so. The free insurance deals that I know of (2 of my own, my girlfriends and my parents) have all offered 5 years no claims at the end of the free policy if you renewed. After a further year you are free to take it elsewhere. I've been driving with my own car for 4 years, had a minor bump in the first year yet I presently have 7 years no claims. :D

how can they offer that?

Becuase, as someone else pointed out, only they can offer the full NCB. Any other insurer won't take it.

Basically, your NCB isn't a right, it is a discretionary discount.
