Wipers not working?? - Read this first!!

Featured Replies

I love the internet. Thank you ap0gee.

The hose had popped off of the bulkhead nozzle. Pushed them back together (holding both ends so as not to push the nozzle through the bulkhead) and heard the most beautiful sound, *click*. Hooray.

The longest time was working out where the pipe'd gone before I eventually found it. The only way I did that was to run the pump a bit and run round to see if I could see any "new" hoses that had appeared. On this occasion, it'd shot straight up so it was like it saying "OK! You've found me! I surrender!", but I'd recommend that this is a two person job: one to operate the rear washer, one to see where the water is coming from.

Anyway, very much sorted.

Thanks again.

Thanks a million....fuse 15 was gone alright! Sorted :)

had the wippers stop and found this little page very helpfull and had a readable fuse guide unlike the owners manual..

How do you find fuse 15? Very confusing diagram and none of the fuses numbered?

How do you find fuse 15. Tried fuse 41 to no avail went to Skoda agent fuse was 40p bill was £10. Wouldnt show me but told me it was under the bonnet??????????

Have you not got a handbook? Detailed diagram in there. It's not under the bonnet but behind the trim on the RH end of the fascia

No Problem however payment via the load of your Atom would be much appreciated! :)

I can't do a loan because you'd not be insured - but a ride would be OK in finer weather... I did take it out between Xmas and New Year but it's firmed ensconced in the garage at the moment.

"Can anyone tell me if there are spare fuses held in the fuse box before i take the cover off?"

As far as i am aware no. Or at least mine ceratinly didn't.

Had to schelp to Halfords and acquire some which i now keep in the glovebox just in case.

Halfords sell a packet of 2 fuses for an exhorbitant £1.89. However they also sell a mixed set of 100 including 20 10A ones housed in a substantial box for only £6.99 - I bought two, one for normal sized fuses and one for the smaller ones...

I've now got the "rear washer not working" problem - I can hear the motor but no water comes out. I'll leave it to the weekend to find where it's popped off...

i recently had the case of when you pulled the wiper stalk you youy the wipers but no scoosh same went for the rear wiper had it tracked down to a major wiring fault in the harness where it comes out the bulkhead and turns 90 degrees up to the ecu turns out that whole section of wiring harness was completely degraded.. needless to say i got a hell of a bill to get that fixed.. nd then the usual fuse 15 blew on me the other day :(

Had same problem with my wipers failing on my Fabia VRS while in the recent snowy weather..

Read the handbook and it told me to look for a totally different fuse!!!

I was startign to think the wipers had gone completly and called Skoda dealer in Burntwood, who pointed me in the right direction!!

All I can say is thaks to them I got them up and running in no time

any one have any ideas about why the wipers stick to the window even when theres heavy rain its like there set at the wrong angel or some thing windows clean and the wipers are fresh any ideas

Hi, I have a 2000 Classic 8V. I didn't have the fuse 15 go with this problem, and I can't remember which one it is, but I'm sure it wasn't 41 either.

Thing is, whatever number it is, in my haste, I pulled out another 5A fuse to test it was right, and forgot where I took the 5A from!!!!!!

Does anyone have a picture of the fuse layout for the fabia classic, year 2000, 8V, 1.4 petrol. I'd be most greatful for this.

cheers

Nick

Amazing to read this - mine packed up in the first lots of snow (early jan in kent) and I called Skoda Assist out.

I had checked the first fuse - found it Ok and the engineer came out and did the same thing and then tested all the others to find the (now usual) supect fuse blown.

Spoke to one of the service advisors at my other half's Skoda dealership and he said oh yeah they go all the time - couldn't they pass this info onto the guys at assist so they can fix the cars a bit quicker!

Having said that was very impressed with Skoda assist - never thought i'd need it though!

Came out to my car this morning and had the problem where the front wipers didn't work at all and also my washers didn't work. Trying the front washers turned the rear wiper on ?????

Checked all the fuses and found there wasn't one in the fuse 15 slot which was strange as the wipers were working fine the previous day. I then noticed there was a fuse in the socket above which is for Diesel engined Fabia's. Mines a petrol. Took it out and put the fuse into number 15 and all working again.

My car had just been into Skoda for an Air Con service yesterday but surely they couldn't have needed to mess with fuses ???

My daughter's Fabia had a problem with the front wipers, rear wiper still working and actually coming on when the front wiper was activated. I changed fuse 41, still no joy. then I read this forum and found out about fuse 15. Changed that, well borrowed the one from fuse 14 - a diesel thingy and hers is petrol, and all is fine again. Thank you. Without you she would have had a call to the Skoda dealer's tomorrow. The manual mentions spare fuses delivered with the car. My daughetr has had the car since new and has never seen any spare fuses (I am not entirely surprised!). Any idea where i might find them?

Thanks again for the advice.

Had this problem today (apparently my mix was too weak / is was -12degrees when I pressed squirt). Fuse 15 fixed it, thanks for the info

Helped me out today thanks. Fuse 15 for me

this saved my bacon this morning. Took the rear fuse out and swapped for 15 just to get me home

Exacly the same happened to mine today caused me abit of panic. Hopefully swapping fuse 15 will work.

Its the wierdest arrangement ever!

Fuse for the washers blows and Front wipers and washers stop working but when satlk is pulled to activate the front washers the rear wiper goes off!

confused the hell out of me last night and had all sorts of thoughts about dodgy wiring related panic before finding the blown fuse.

odd. odd. odd. but luckily easily sorted

Any ideas about defrosting the system ?

Or do I pray for a heatwave ?

Checked today and it was fuse 15 that blew, I changed it and the wipers are now working

I'm definetly gonna make sure the wipers are de-iced before using them now so not to blow the fuse again. As for the washers i might just have to wait till it warms up abit they seem pretty frozen up.

Dunno about defrosting it, i took it out for a decent drive today an got it nice an warm in the hope it might heat up the screenwash an un-freeze the washers but didn't have much luck, im hoping some global warming will come along soon so i can get them working again.

Hope this helps...

Like lots of others my front wipers were not working but rear one came on when I tried the front wipers. Changed fuse 15 and all is well. My husband thinks this site is brilliant, this is the second time its saved me having to put my car into the dealers. :D

Fabulous! Thanks guys.

Funted the wipers, this morning, and was quite worried. Had a brain wave, this evening, that it might be a fuse. You lot have put me on the right track for which one to check.

Just need a trip to halfords to collect my replacement, now. 2quid for a two pack, so I'll have a spare for the next time it happens. :-)
