Over the weekend purchased my first ever Skoda.

It's a nice Onyx black Fabia Comfort,2004,hatchback.

Thing is the wash wipe won't work, when I pull the lever for the liquid to come out, I can hear the pump, but nothing comes out.

I know this is an issue on many a Fabia according to these forums, but anyone got any ideas? And Yes I have checked that there isn't a pool of water on the floor where a pipe has become unattached to the pump outlet. And I'm pretty sure the jets aren't blocked, the problem is front AND rear windows.

Cheers guys.

My front windscreen wipers won't work, Iv'e checked the fuses stated in the handbook and after looking on here i have checked fuse 15 and replaced it but with no success. Front and rear washer jets still working fine and no issues with the rear windscreen wiper. Has anyone had this issue if so what was the problem? or problems :-(

Thanks

Thanks fellas, I'd checked fuse 41 which was fine and was about to look for a wiper motor when I came across this about fuse 15.

  • 1 year later...

Evening all, my passenger side wiper has stopped working, could it be as easy as a fuse gone? Haven't checked yet as too wet outside, but will check in the morning. Anyone else had the same? Also with rear washer, I have a very wet floor rear passenger side, could it be the washer pipe? Regards ditzy blonde ;-)

Hi,

I have enjoyed reading this post as I have just experienced a similar issue when driving last weekend.  All wipers and washers were working fine and dandy and then all of a sudden no front wipers or screenwash.  The back wiper works when pulling the wiper stalk for the front screen wash (as well as pushing the wiper stalk away).  None of the other functions on the wiper stalk are working :(  The conditions were around zero degrees centigrade, though the car had been in colder conditions previously with no issues.  Currently there is no sound coming from the washer pump - though I am assuming it has stopped due to some fuse?

I have looked for the blown fuse though there are no blown fuses and there is no fuse 15 present and there are none lying in the footwell.  The car is a 1.9 diesel Skoda Fabia estate 09.

I would be grateful for any pointers before I take the plunge for speaking to an auto electrician.

Thanks in advance

Andrew

You have mk2 Fabia if it's 2009, so won't be the same fuse number.

At a quick glance it looks like fuse 26 may be the equivalent in your car, rated 15A.

Thanks - I don't appear to have a fuse in number 26 but will add one in to see what happens

Thanks

Andrew

Are you definitely looking at the right fuse, the layout can be misleading on RHD cars apparently, see here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/416356-confusing-fuse-panel-fabia-vrs-mk2/

I have been through the fusebox a couple of times - the image missed from the original post shows a gap for the number 26 (bottom row of larger blade fuses and second in from the right - straight under number 43 - yellow fuse 20 A) - and there are no fuses blown, looking dirty or damaged :(  My PC crashed when uploading the images the first time round, so second time lucky.

Strange, try fitting a 15A in position 26. The info I'm looking at, and yours, suggests that 27 should be empty...

Do you know what date your car was manufactured (rather than registered)?

Hi - thanks for the feedback.  I will put a 15A into 26 - not sure of the manufacture date - car is at home and I am at work.  I will check and make a not of the details when I get them.

Again, thanks this might save a few pounds :)

Hi,

Car manufacture year is 2009.  Swapping the fuse to slot 26 has started the washer pump working again - though still no response from the wipers - must be a loose connection on the stalk?  Time to loosen the fascia maybe.

A little progress then. Fuse 44, 20 Amps is the other one associated with front wipers on your car as far as I can see.  Double-check that one I guess.

I checked that one earlier and have just tried swapping another 20 A (yellow) from elsewhere in the fuse box - still no joy.  Other electrical item (heated seats) still work with fuses being swapped about so I guess that means the issue is after the fuse box and maybe the stalk or the wiper motor.  Will have a look at getting access to the connections on the motor as this saves having to remove the steering column cover.

Thanks for your help so far :)

Just a quick update - the issue ended up not being the fuses, wiper motor, the relay or the stalk.  Car ended up in Auto Electricians (££) and the fault was diagnosed as a faulty Body Module.  Now fixed but feeling the pain of electrical repairs.  First year of big expenses for this car - otherwise a great drive all round.

Thanks for support.

Andrew

Just in case, for the future, any chance of telling us the cost of that module, I've had it in my mind that the first number might be a "4" ?

Glad you're sorted, sorry about the cost. I bet it was a relay, but one soldered to the circuit board of the BCM, rather than a pluggable, replaceable item.  Have you still got the old BCM? Might be worth investigating the failure if you have (I'd be interested in helping with that. PM me if you have it and would be up for it). Could end up with a sellable spare.

Sadly, the old part was taken away by the auto electrician.  I wonder if they will fix and recondition it?  The car gets used a lot so the cost over the time I have had it is small as a proportion of the running costs.  If it was something every week then I would be getting worried; that used to happen to my first car (Vauxhall Chevette) though it was very much easier to repair.

Hopefully, that will be the end of the repairs for a while ....

The part was about 300 of your earth pounds - there was also the initial testing cost and the reprogramming.  With modern cars some items are out of my area of fixing so I have to rely on the garages :(

Oh and there was some VAT thing as well :(

In principle, it still belongs to you and you could ask for it back (might only apply if you had asked for it at the start of the negotiation?). That might sour potential future relations with said autospark though, if he/she had planned to make any money with it. Could always ask and take a "no, I've binned it" at face value.

I had £400 + progamming cost in mind from what I had looked at in case that was the problem with my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza, but that figure was just gleaned from ebay so maybe main dealers are a bit more sensible with pricing.
