Wipers not working?? - Read this first!!

Featured Replies

My front wipers are working really slowly and there is no difference with the various speed settings. The only thing I think of is I used the air conditioning during the recent hot spell? any ideas where to start looking for trouble much appreciated

My wipers have packed in completely.

Started to check fuses then realised the following have all stopped working ..........

Heater

Heated Rear Screen

Side Lights

Rear Fogs

Help really needed!!!!

Definitely sounds like a fuse to me fozzy67, I'm just going to try and find mine

Sorry it has taken so long but I wanted to say thanks for this post - my wipers stopped working in January, guess what after icy weather!! I did try the fuses but obviously got the wrong one (manual didn't make a lot of sense to me). Booked it into the garage THEN found this post after remembering I had joined this forum a long while ago. DUH! Saw I had got the wrong fuse. Anyway luckily the garage hadn't started work on it the following morning so I rang and told them what it probably was, they agreed, didn't charge me in the end.

I'll always make sure I have a stronger fluid mix in winter now, and de-frost before wiping.

Anyway thanks, as this forum saved me some money and would have saved me some time too if I'd looked here first.

Maybe fuse 15 should be upgraded to 15amp from 10amp ?

I doubt the motor or wiring would fry if it froze or snowed on the screen yet it would blow if it was stuck fast or jammed.

A spectacularly late response I admit, but it's worth saying that I had Paul 2505's symptoms and it turned out to be a disintegrated switch rather than a poorly fitted connector.

I lost my front wipers on a wet motorway and had to call the RAC. The washers had packed up (with a full bottle) a few miles earlier. Attempts to get the front wipers working resulted only in single sweeps from the rear one. The guy from the RAC took the shroud off and found the switch in bits. He showed me a workaround that involved pulling the stalk back very delicately towards the wash position to get a single sweep of the front wipers — this got me home, happily.

The bill for a new switch fitted was £145 at Jewson's of Oxford.

my wipers work but have decided to rest in the vertical position, annoying but have got used to it, but its MOT time now and ive been told its a failure like that. could this be an easy fix of is the motor in need of replacement

had the wippers stop and found this little page very helpfull and had a readable fuse guide unlike the owners manual..

Its the wierdest arrangement ever!

Fuse for the washers blows and Front wipers and washers stop working but when satlk is pulled to activate the front washers the rear wiper goes off!

confused the hell out of me last night and had all sorts of thoughts about dodgy wiring related panic before finding the blown fuse.

odd. odd. odd. but luckily easily sorted

HA! almost exaclty the thoughts that ran through my head "ohhhh noooo, this can't be a fuse.. somethings got screwed"

I'd checked 41.. Sounds like 15's me chap though!

I've got the 1000:1 little bottle of Skoda fluid in, mixed as it said on the bottle.. couldn't find any "use x:1 if winter" so assumed 1000:1 was correct as surely that wouldn't be the summer mix on the bottle, how silly would that be?... it IS. Think I'll have to defrost in the parents garage and re-fill! Grrrr

Another thanks for this thread - I've had the "no front wipers and no squirters" problem today - and in this weather I bet I'm not the only one!!

Unfortunately, I can't get on Briskoda at work, so it took quite a lot of sorting out - eventually fixed after a phone call with the very helpful service department at Benfield Skoda in Harrogate who pointed me in the direcion of fuse 15.

Great help. Thanks :)

Had my wipers stop yesterday and the rear wiper working when you try to wash front screen, quick read of this post and swapped out fuse 15 this morning and all working again

My rear washer is not working now? suspect the hose has come off somewhere, where's the first place to check? Seem to remember a few years back on my previous Fabia it came off under the bonnet somewhere, but can't remember where!!

My front wipers and washers packed up on a Christmas Day hillwalking trip up to Loch Lomond. I also had the rear wiper coming on when I tried to get the front washers to work. Thanks to Briskoda I swapped out Fuse 15 and am now sorted!

Moggy, thanks very much for this mate.

Just saved me a 60 mile trip to the dealers with no wipers lol. Changed number 41 as per the handbook to no affect but changing 15, worked starightaway... Great advice :)

I have now found the thread about rear wiper washer problems. The old link does not work any more. Look at ap0gee post, it's no 11.

Fabia I - Rear Washer Jet Issues

Great advice above, thank you :-)

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!!!! ... to a fellow local.

My wipers were working when I went to work this morning in Gloucester but weren't working this afternoon. I checked the obvious fuse 41 but that was fine - I even replaced it. I HAD to get up to Shropshire so carried on regardless stopping every so often to clean the windscreen - and worrying about how and when I was going to get them fixed...

When I got there I discovered the rear wiper came on when I tried to wash the front screen! I came on here - searched for Wipers - and found this thread immediately. And you've described the problem exactly! I replaced fuse 15 - I had to temporarily use the rear wiper fuse 32 since I've never seen fuses so small! - and the front wipers were working again!

Very, very relieved...

HELP

I've checked fuse 15 and it seems fine - though didn't try a new one, just visually inspected.

Both rear and front wipers work (front on all speeds too).

However, I get no screen wash coming out front or back. I have noticed that the I cannot even hear the pump trying when I place the demand.

I topped up with neat screenwash and the level does not decrease - but not surprising if the pump anit even going.

any thoughts / advice would be appreciated.

Right guys I have this very problem but your remedies arent fixing it.

The wipers gave up, I knew i'd seen this thread and re-read it and then proceeded to check the car.

The wipers arent working on any setting apart from the rear wiper when trying to get the front washers to work.

First off Fuse 15 was not blown but to be on the safe side I pinched Fuse 4(interior lights) to try but still no joy

Then I checked all the fuses that were said in the Handbook to be linked with the wipers and found Fuse 64 to be blown which is a 20A for Headlight Cleaning system. At this point I thought Cool all will be fixed and happy in a few minutes. How wrong I was!

So with the fuse changed the problem hasn't changed. I then got my trusty circuit tester out and checked every single fuse in the fuse box but non showed any issue.

So now i'm at a loss the only thing I can think it can be is either the wiper stalk or a relay, i've been told it cant be the bonnet sensor as that only affects the intermittent wipe.

Any help you can offer would be gratefully appreciated.

Paul

This is the same problem I've been having, they went today after work on way home. I haven't checked anything on circuit tester (I don't have one) but front wipers and front and rear washer jets not working (no noise from pump either). Any ideas anybody?

ive just had the wiper problem on the way into work in a bit of a snow storm!!...Managed to pull into a car park......turned around and came home stopping every so often where safe to do so to wipe the screen!!

Can anyone tell me if there are spare fuses held in the fuse box before i take the cover off? If not will have to try to get to motor factors somehow!!

Cheers

Kit :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!!!! ... to a fellow local.

No Problem however payment via the load of your Atom would be much appreciated! :)

Can anyone tell me if there are spare fuses held in the fuse box before i take the cover off?

As far as i am aware no. Or at least mine ceratinly didn't.

Had to schelp to Halfords and acquire some which i now keep in the glovebox just in case.

ita a shame that the diagram in the book is for a left hooker!!...its all in reverse to figure it out!! And why cant all the fuses be the same size just different ratings!!....But still no joy with mine.....wipers still dont work!! :(

K

Thank you for the advice got to work left at 4.30am got stuck with road closures for an hour poor sdo slid of the road into a tree up here is the only road you can take eventually got to work at 8am wipers working all the way , as reversed parked accidentally knocked the rear one on tried to turn them off and the front s didnt move at all , remebered seing the title of this thread phoned the missues and she had a look and thanks to the clear instructions managed to swap one around fro the trip home .. thanks very much again

Excellent trip - mine wtopped working on the way to Cardiff yesterday and I tried fuse 41 no joy - read this thread this afternoon and swapped out the rear revers light fuse for fuse 15 and they worked again. Just got to get to a motor factors tomorrow now to get a stock of spares in the car. Cheers

If rear wiper washer is not working, but the pump is, there are 4 places where the pipe can disconnect. See ap0gee post in this thread http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/rear-washer-jet-issues-help/102244/#post1189096

AARRGGHH!!! My Fabia vRS has a rear hose issue where if I ask it to wash the rear window, the wiper wipes, but then water (screen cleaner) pours from the back of the under engine tray!

I took the bumper off and checked all the hoses, motors and reservoir there before I realised that the problem was further back.

I hope it's at a union / joint between two lengths of hose, but at the moment there's so much snow outside I can't get the car up high enough to take the under engine tray off to see. This post of ap0gee would be invaluable as I can't wash my rear window without dumping 5ltrs of screen cleaner washer fluid (more expensive than Angel tears! ;o) ) on the road behind me.

THANK YOU!

EDIT: Oh, I've read back and found ap0gee talking here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/93030-rear-washer-jet-issues-help/page__view__findpost__p__1150674

I'll try this. Ta.
