Windows 7 Beta

Featured Replies

Anyone else giving it a try?

So far so good, there's none of the garbage that clutters up Vista, it's very streamlined. It's also running as fast as XP on my system, which is far from high-end (Athlon 3800, 1Gb RAM) which would be a bit sluggish running Vista.

A big step back in the right direction IMO :)

I'm testing one of my games on it now, lets see if it works :D

EDIT: and it does! Some graphical issues, but I feel these are driver related.

If the release will be the same as this with bugs removed, it's a winner and I will buy it. They just need to sell it at a sensible price though.

All's well with it here, plays COD5 no problem, just having a glitch with Sage at the moment but nothing that can't be sorted. It's looking good so far

It's all looking good so far here.... I didn't trust it at first and have only put it on my laptop - Seems to be running fine, just lost the sound driver (So, Nothing that can't be fixed.)

I'm going to give this a blast over the next week or two and see what I think.. Certainly sounds much better than previous Betas.

Now with Windows 7 have Microsoft changed the massive mash of operating system and user data files scattered everywhere that is XP, Vista and everything before? Why do I think not but love to be proved wrong, this is a feature I would dearly love.

O/S files on C, Application Files on D, Program Data on E, Scratch/Temp on F, User documents/data on G. Seperate partitions. That is how an operating system should work IMHO. Be SO much easier to support and maintain.

It is the same file layout as Vista. One of the few things I actually like about Vista.

Will testers end up with a full/ultimate version as with vista?

Unknown, I haven't looked into it that far yet. I would say only official Beta testers will get that.

EDIT: There is an option to become an active beta tester.

Where's that Mike?

On this FAQ page, it has this question and answer:

Q:Will I get a free copy of Windows 7 once it’s released for volunteering to test the Beta?

A:Sorry, no.

They said the same thing about vista ;)

LOL , page full of updates for it already :)

W00t... downloading now :)

I've finally got it downloaded. Will install later.

Have just installed it on my old win7 partition, couldnt upgrade Vista as vista is 32bit and this is the 64bit ver of win 7.

Just messing about at the moment.. seems very responsive, and i like the "enhanced" features of the new taskbar... ie file download progress appears in the background of the IE button.. what can i say.. im a sucker for shiney things

I fail to get excited about what will no doubt be another M$ dissapointment!!

Hmm.. thats just typical anti-M$ trash talk.

GTFO this thred n00b! :P

It's odd how people using apple products will do their best to slate Microsoft. At the end of the day Microsoft make the most widely used office software bundle there is, the most widely used operating system that there is, the most successful current generation games console... they're obviously doing something right!

I dont use apple.. i am a PC and i still think its carp!

So what have they done with DX10 under W7? It was a fiasco in Vista, which is the biggest pile of dog poo ever to be released as an OS. Windows XP was so good I had started to warm towards Microsoft, then along came came Vista. :finger:

:D fair enough

I use vista at work and also have access to the leopard apple OS and think vista is nicer to look at and easier to use.

Could be that I'm a freak? ;)

MS got where they are by failing to release source code, and trying to be the sole source, with fines to match. Anyone who suffered the pain of Windows ME will always be wary of MS products.
