mpg

i recently took delivery of an octy vrs deisel and have just taken it on wot i call its first decent run with 2 adults 2 children and 3 decent size bags what should the mpg have reflected should it be close to the advertised figure or a lot less:eek:

It all depends on how you drive it and what the conditions were - it is a bit like asking "How long is a piece of string ? " with no other information.

I drove up to Manchester and back again just after Christmas and averaged approx 48 mpg at NSL.

I drive my 2.0tdi L&K estate gently but briskly betwen stoke and lichfield regularly with no one else in the car but a full boot and i get 47/48 mpg for what thats worth:thumbup:

Ahem,

on my PD (not CR) I hardly achieve advertised figure, as it happens I hardly coast and cruise.

There're not advertised figures for going WOT :D:D:D:D:D

I'm on about 35 mpg in my vRS TDi. But i've just got the car so I should imagine in time i'll calm down a bit and acheive slightly higher mpg.

Just passed 10k in my '08 vrs pd (estate) and the mpg is getter better despite the fact we're on winter diesel at present (supposedly the anti-waxing agents reduce the fuel's calorific value). Long term average 42mpg. Mostly drive gently. Odd thing is when I hurry the 30 miles home from work the mpg is often better than when I pootle, eg 45. Noticeable difference before and after a dpf regen, though have never got more than 50. So the answer is not to pootle.

I fully expect the mpg to carry on improving as the car has now significantly reduced the amount of oil it uses - think the engine is starting to bed in. Some forums suggest this can take up to 60k miles!

Can anyone give a pointer as to how easy or hard it is to take the roof rails off? methinks they're causing a fair bit of drag!

On saturday I did a trip to felixstowe from derbyshire (175 miles), Mostly motorway miles, doing 70mph on cruise and down to 50mph through the road works, and a bit of stop start driving at the start and managed to get 51.8mpg.

On the return journey, this went up to 54.8mpg around the newark area, but driving down the narrow, twisty rounds back to home took this down to 54.0mpg.

Not bad for its first long run, and only 2,500 miles on the clock!

I did a 400 mile round trip a few weeks ago, averaged 65.1 mph (never above 70 !!!! :D), and averaged 51 mpg..3500 on the clock........normal daily useage is only about 41 mpg though...............

Please,

look at Index of /anleitungenDemontage_Dachreling.pdf, even if in German pictures are very clear.

I feel the same about the rails, noise and drag. Still have to figure out how to fills the holes that will be left...

I've had 53mpg in my 135k 140 PD estate, just me in it though. Get high 40's with 4 up.

So much depends on driving style. When folks say they drive gently, even that is down to interpretation of the word "gentle". My 1.9Octy 130 hatch averages 53.5 on a tankful but if driven like a pussy it is quite easy to get 70mpg cumulative on a trip with one occupant. The best I ever managed was Chester to Boston - 160 miles and driving as tight as I could the whole way, I averaged 81.9mpg. Unbelievable but true. Took a hell of a long time to get to Boston. Also, when I checked, the fuel consumption computer is a little optimistic - 53.5 on the computer equates to about 49mpg using the good old-fashioned method!!! I would guess my epic journey equates to just over 70mpg. Correct tyre pressures, aircon off, dry roads, roofbars off, 40mph around roundabouts. Avoid braking and accelarating as much as poss, speed held to 50-55mph, slip-stream where possible and the above figures are achievable. These wretched trip computers make normal people behave like such t*ssers - I really must buy a car that doesn't have the wretched thing!!!:)

Long run, driving gently can have the computer reading up to 60mpg! However that is on a down hill route, on the way back ... mostly uphill ... down to 48.

Day to day 43 - 45mpg.

Lowest 27 mpg towing against a headwind.

Doing 67mph from Yorkshire to Essex I managed 56.4mpg in my CR.

I've done 1100 miles in mine now and it averages 37.7mpg. That's mostly 14 mile round trip to work and back at peak time in traffic and one weekend away 200 miles each way.

I tend to drive mine quite hard too.

Overall average for the 10,000 miles that I have had the car is 41/42mpg.

Best figure was 52mpg for a 30 mile mixed run (driving the same run more 'normally' would give around 42mpg).

I rarely get less than 35mpg on any normal use of the car (to put this is context, this is still more than I ever achieved with my last car, a Honda Accord Type S).

Getting an average (average 2 figure for the last week) of just over 49 mpg, 2.0CR TDi, keeping at 70 on my 36 mile journey to and from work, dual carriageway and generally free moving traffic, though with a couple of miles of heavy traffic in the middle. Got 56 when I sat at a steady 6 and 38.9 (a 20 mile journy) when I was using it for a work reason............

  • 2 weeks later...

Commuting 300 miles I week I get 47ish.

At Christmas when there was less traffic I got 51mpg on the same route.

For other trips

If I boot it I get low 40s. If I drive like a slow thing on a clear run I can get 57mpg.

Long term average *currently* reads 51mpg

Going to work I get around 53mpg

Coming home about 44-45mpg (uphill)

So long term is usually 48mpg

Hi,

I've now done 17,000 since getting the car in march last year.

No computer so worked out on paper my long term average is 51.6mpg.

Not bad for an 04 with 130k on the clock :)

cant spell !

Would a small remap help my consumption its 105 at the moment if I got it up to 130 would it help.

Also what difference would it make when most of my driving is at 30mph or stop start

Had a nice 200 miles driving up/down country this weekend.

Got a lovely average of 53mpg.

Considering the size of the car, that is excellent economy.
