help with wipers having mind of there own....

Featured Replies

Im having trouble with my front wipers having a mind of there own on my 04 oct vrs. I decided to go away for the weekend and half way through my journey we decided to stop for some food. I had been using the wipers with no problems but when i turned the car back on my wipers would not stop so in the end i had to take the fuse out. They would still go through the different speeds but not stop.

please could someone shed some light on this problem. It seems to be one thing after another at the moment with this car.

cheers

stop sensor not working on the wiper motor. Therefore it does not think the wipers have parked and has another go?

cool sounds expensive?

My suggestion is only a guess, and would just be a replacement wiper motor. I don't recall seeing much you can do to the wiper motor when I had mine out (when I was cleaning up the wiper linkage).

My Octavia (03 TDi Elegance 110bhp) also has a similar problem. At times I can turn on the wipers but nothing happens until I move the switch from top to bottom several times, then the wipers start. On other times I can be driving along minding my own business when the wipers and washers will come on without any prompting.

The latter has only happened at nighttime and seems to be headlight washers only, not windscreen washers which is quite bizarre and seems to be saying earthing / electrical problem. Fault is intermittent so when VW Cheltenham looked into it recently they did not find a problem. Wipers worked perfectly on the day I took the car in, also over the weekend after I picked up the car and then played up on the following Monday morning.

Anyone have any ideas?

My wipers had a mind of their own a while back, I removed the relay (above accelerator) for a couple days until I needed to use the wipers again, and its been fine ever since. Seem to remember someone suggested possible damp/wet contacts on the relay ?? or a faulty relay. Other options I've read are wiper motor parking sensor as mentioned already, or the stalk was another possibility.

Good luck

I am also having similar problems with mine, only notice it when its raining but my wipers will stop in the middle of the screen then after several up and downs on the stalk they start off again.

I am just glad it has not done this on the motorway during a heavy down pour.

I am also having similar problems with mine, only notice it when its raining.

 FFS That sound daft obvious i am going to notice it when its raining thats when i use the damm things :D

Does anyone know which relay is it for the wipers as there are quite a few under the steering wheel - Cheers.
