Fuel filler cap release

Featured Replies

Has anyone had problems with this?

I went to push the the panel back yesterday after filling up but now it won't 'click' back - any ideas?

It's probably just the little plastic finger that holds the flap shut getting stuck - spray it with some WD40 and then work the handle inside the car back and fourth a few times - you should feel it freeing up!!

I've just had that problem. I tried the WD40 but still no joy.

This is what I did to fix it:

I pulled away the boot carpet, covering the offiside quarter panel of the boot.(Where the fuel filler is) Which revealed that the release cable had come away from its "whole" - This forms the actual catch (or little plastic finger as referred to in the above post) that the filler lid catches onto to hold it shut.

I just had to push it back in place. It wouldn't stay, so I held it in place then closed the fuel filler lid from outside. Which caught on to the cable and held it there and the lid stayed shut.

Just watch out because the clip that holds the cable in place looks flimsy, looks like the cable will come away next time... I think I might need to replace the clip.

Hope that helps.

There is a guide on here already.
