3 Months, wow.

They must have some demand, so no chance of culling the monthly fee then.

What annoys me is the that that I have have to pay someone to come in and plug a box in and thats it. Installation fee is a bleeding rip off.

The fee is dependant on if you have sky + or not. I paid the full £60 now £30 iirc. But I had a new dish cables and the full setup, So not too bad, the local fella I know charges £30 to move a dish so I can't complain.

I'm in a flat which has a shared pre config'd feed right up to HD+ std, but I still have to pay the fee for someone to unbox a unit and plug it in.......

I read your post further down and in your case it is a rip off but in my case they had to install a new LNB and dual core coax cable, it would be a nightmare to price each job up on the amount of work that requires carrying out.

Yeah totally agree with you. Just wish they would give me the option of not paying it when I explained that there is no need to send an engineer. When I moved in, I managed to get a refund on my install fee for std sky..... but that took me 4 months :(

I know you think it's unneccesary but the engineer should set it up properly for you, check the signal quality and pair the viewing card.

Lol, wish he had. The guy for Telair turned up, Unboxed the std unit and plugged it in, That was it. Nothing else. Probably why Sky reluctently refunded the install fee.

Ouch

Wonder why that is.

Supposedly due to demand but might still try a call asking about the offer instead etc....

Cheers

Dave.

Just got a text from Sky saying my order could now go through....... Gave them a bell as i wanted to change my order to include multiroom instead of just the HD box and have my install date of Friday 20th February.

Could have had this friday but wanted to make sure all the stuff on our box had been watched in case something weird happened and it didn't let me access it after it's moved upstairs.

Cheers

Dave.

Have been very pleased with mine so far.

What box did you get installed Stu????

I'm hoping for a Pace or Samsung.

I opted for an Amstrad on the advice of our friendly installer.

Stu .....

How do you find SD through a HDMI cable ????

I opted for an Amstrad on the advice of our friendly installer.

I didn't think Amstrad made HD boxes???? Thought it was just Pace, Samsung & Thomson.

EDIT

Forget that i just searched google and found out they were released tail end of last year. :o

And Sky bought Amstrad for that purpose.

SD seems ok to me, I do try to watch the HD channels but I suppose that's novelty.

I was 'told' that Sky now own Amstrad's set top box operation and poached a top man from pace to get it off the ground.

lol I have too keep telling swmbo too watch C4 on the HD channel as she forgets

I find bbc 1 a bit ropey on SD but there again I don't watch it that much.

I must say Ross Kemp in afganistan does look awesome though:thumbup::thumbup:

Only for NEW customers ;)

My girlfriend is a new customer ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Had ours in today. Great guy installing it. Phoned us up yesterday evening to confirm when he'd arrive. When i asked if he'd got any Sammy boxes he said he'd only got Amstrad but would check at the warehouse today. Unfortunately he could still only get Amstrad this morning so it's an Amstrad we've had installed.

Thought i'd got a problem with sound dropping out but turns out it's my optical lead that seems a little loose in the back of the HD box and a little re-positioning looks to have cured it for now.

The box defo has the known issue/fault with the contrast being stuck on high whatever setting you changee it too but Sky are supposedly releasing a patch to cure this. First time i've had an Amstrad box since getting sky digital two days after the service started so let's see how it goes. :)

Just wondered what Stu or anyone else who has just had an Amstrad HD box installed thinks to it???

Ours has the issue with the contrast not adjusting through HDMI. The wording changes but the actual contrast stays the same.... apparently on high.

SD pic quality seems ok and about the same as the Pace sky+ box it replaced. I've fiddled with the settings on the plasma as i thought the contrast issue was causing probs with PQ but am in two minds as to whether to phone Sky..... I might report the problem so as to add to the amount of reports etc.... but keep hold of the box if a software fix is going to be available.... Although that's looking less likely as other Amstrad owners are saying they can indeed change the contrast even with the same version of Amstraad box etc....

I keep going from "it looks great" to "it could be better if i could change the contrast" etc.....

Cheers

Dave.

It seems ok to me to be honest.

I've not felt the need to delve into the settings.

Shush all of you... stop saying how good it is :P Trying to tell myself i dont want it.
