Acer Aspire One thread

Here's a question for those in the know -

Is there a good guide for setting up a dual boot??

My thoughts are -

I need Windows for VCDS

I know nothing about the included Linux but it looks nice

How about Windows 7 Beta's?

£150? That's a really good price Stu. What actual model/spec did you get for that? I notice that the XP ones seem a little more expensive when I was looking on Amazon.

They are a bargain Corinne, the one I have is marked as a -

Part No - LU S050A 105

Model No - ZG5

It's Linux with 512MB RAM and 120GB HD

This may help a little, although it doesn't seem to tally with the part numbers I have -

If you specifically want a Windows machine and don't have a copy available then you need to factor in the cost of that although you may be eligable for something from work if you are NHS.

Hmm, that's something to think about. I really wanted to go for the windows version, but at those prices it seems a bit daft. Looks like we all like the blue one too. :D

I'm over in the real world sunday/monday, so I'll have a look, but thanks for the offer.

Best to call the store and reserve beforehand.

Fareham and Portsmouth have some as do WalMart at Havant and Totton.

When I formatted for windows I found the disk was 160GB.

I think I'm gonna go for XP as the main but have a little play with Windows 7. Just grabing 7 now then got to work out how to setup the dual boot and install from USB.

Well these little babies are full of surprises aren't they.

I have now installed XP SP3 on mine and downloaded all the drivers directly from Acer -

it appeared that I would have the 0.3 megapixel as opposed to the 1.3 megapixel.

When I tried to install the 0.3 megapixel driver it stops at the point asking you to plug in the device so thinking it might not be able to see the device (USB) I tried the other device and would you believe it's the 1.3 megapixel.

Like Ian I also have a 160GB HD - Not only indicated by the size of the storage available but also the model number of the drive.

If you are running windows you can download the AAO fan control app. Ralf Neumüller´s Freeware - Acer Aspire One (AA1) Fan Control

works like a dream! :D

Alex, i'm assuming you have had no problems at all running this software ?

just a bit concerned now , its getting a bit warm underneath

Ok, i've decided to post on this "dark side" thread as well as the eeePC thread as i thought it may be of some use to you Acer lot too. ;)

I thought i'd try RocketDock on the mrs' Asus eeePC 901 the other day having seen it ages ago when it was first released. Personally i'm really happy with how it looks and it also allows far more stuff to be added. Even with the quality set to high the Atom processor still manages all the zooming functions and the minimized windows work well etc... on the dock.

I saw this on another forum so can't confirm if it is true. Apparently it is in-store only.

the A150 is the linux 512mb/ 160gb one that asda were doing for 150 :)

Just got one of these this weekend. 120GB hard disk 1GB RAM and the OS is Linux. It isn't for me though but for my dad. I decided on the Linux version for him as it is a little easier to operate than windows and less can go wrong with it, no need for anti virus or anything like that either. Will soon have it set up as part of my network in the house.

Aye up!!

Does anyone know of a secret stash of these still going cheap anywhere? Well, when I say anywhere, I mean preferably somewhere near Stafford!

Cheers, Luke.
