Woke up this morning to find my sisters car, an M reg Micra missing.

My Favorits an M plate and it was untouched.

First thought she might have gone somewhere in the morning. Which she was still still upstairs sleeping.

Came back home later to find the police called and found the car in Farnworth and all the keys were at the house.

Cars been recovered to a yard in Horwich, no damage apart from the steering column.

:mad::mad:

To the theiving scum :finger:

I hope the Police find the scum and prosecute them otherwise if I get hold of them they will suffer injury. To hell with assault charges.

Itll just be the usual, steal a car to get them home... get it alot round here!

Apparently that model of Micra is becoming one of the most stolen cars in the UK.

Guessing perhaps it doesn't have an immobiliser, so they know these are an easy target? Don't think it was mandatory for cars to have them until sometime later, the Favorit's immobiliser was an aftermarket one fitted as the cars were imported.

Hope they find the perps.

Get a krooklock for it - either between the handbrake and the gearstick or between the pedals and the steering wheel. They won't get far with it then.

Depends if they have a hack saw or not, but it would deter the more un prepared thieves.

Just get a touch contact immobiliser fitted. Thatcham CAT 2 IIRC.

They don't cost much to fit and save on the insurance for cars without them quite often.

That way if they want to take it to get home again they won't be able to start it. If you make sure you have the stickers on then hopefully they will see it and not bother.

I can get either off in under 20 seconds !

I thought Spud's were one of the first cars to have imobilisers as part of Nissan's NAS systems?

My M plate clio had one, but obv by todays standards they're probably worthless as technology's moved on in the last 14 years.

but slows them down just enough ;)

Na, the gearstick/handbrake ones are off in under 30 seconds without any tools.

Disklock or a proper immobiliser with visible warnings are the best options IMHO.

They started putting immobilsers the following year - N reg.

I agree about the krooklok things and the ones that go from gear lever to handbrake - mate of mine snapped the key off so him and his brother pulled it off.

Locks that hook around the steering wheel often don't need any tools to remove. The usual technique is to sit hunched over high on the seat so you can get your feet onto the wheel to bend it and unhook the device. If it requires cutting, then most wheels are just a 3mm wire ring encapsulated by foam with plastic or leather trim which can be cut through in seconds with either a saw or snips.

As the above poster says, the handbrake ones just need a good yank.

Looks like I need to upgrade mine then! The trouble is with the large steering wheel lock that corradoboy mentions is where to store the regid thing when your not using it!

you need one of these mate:

Disklok slips nicely into the rear footwell. On the odd occasion I have 3+ people in the car I can pop it in the boot, but that is very rare.

Thanks guys.

My sister spoke more with the recovery people holding the car.

Until we actually see it we won't know if the locks have been damaged.

If the car was locked (my sister says it was) then the only way of breaking in is damaging the lock IMO.

The insurers will examine the car after it's been dusted off. so we'll get a full report soon.

 to GMP for recovering the car swiftly. Hopefully the person(s) who nicked it will be prosecuted.

The sat nav charging lead (Sat Nav was at home), a cig lighter to 3 pin socket adapter was left in the car and these were left untouched.

Depending on the micra you can either use the packing wrap trick to unlock the car or the half tennis ball trick to get in.

Micras as with most older cars really are very easy to break into and start.

Having watched some of the tv cop shows, even when the cops catch them the magistrates just let them go again! They always have a narrator at the end saying ... "he had 427 other cases taken into consideration and got 3 months suspended jail"

cheers ... darren
