Skoda 6-CD Autochanger..

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a Skoda 6-CD Autochanger fitted to their Fabia and can anyone tell me what the quality is like? problems? CDs jump a lot? or is it a good bit of kit?

Regards,

I went for an aftermarket MP3 HU - My own CD changer on a CD-R

Had one fitted on my old car and thought was a waste of time. I prefer to take a case that holds about 12 then just change the one in the dash. Found that never used to remember to change the cassette anyway, waste of money - never skipped though.

I've got one that used to be in my Octavia (Symphony H/U) and never had any problems. It's surplus to requirements now if you want it.

are you wanting to offload it for next to nothing? I notice Skoda have dropped the price a little of new ones - probably still a hefty charge for getting it fitted though..

If it fits in the fabia where it should do, then great I may be interested, if it needs some fudging around to get it sorted, perhaps not.. how long have you had it? what condition is it in etc?

Regards,

I have the skoda 6 cd changer fited under the passenger seat of my fabia vrs, i have had no problems with it jumping etc and the sound quality is very good

Agree, there's nothing wrong with the symphony/6 disc changer and once you add an Infinity Basslink it sounds even better :)

skodaTDI,

You have PMs disabled. I don't want to get this thread moved to 'For Sale And Wanted'. Someone else is interested and if I don't hear from you by Friday evening I'll get back in touch with them.

Carry on!

Just my two pence worth - mine's being replaced under warranty after suddenly giving up the ghost after 6 months - won't recognise discs and grinds away before giving CD Error on the head unit. I was asked if I'd put CD-RWs in it as these will cause problems (I hadn't), have no idea what has gone wrong with it. Still, only a week's wait for the replacement and a half-hour job to fit apparently.

It was fine though before that, no jumping about or anything. Position under the passenger seat is ideal IMHO as I think I would find fiddling around in the boot annoying to change the magazine.

rich,

If the other guy wants your autochanger, let him have it - I'll go with getting a brand new one. I tend to buy new at any rate. Thanks for all the comments on here regarding the auto-changer. Mostly positive and only one problematic unit so far. I'll hang on for a little while longer berfore deciding to purchase.

Does anyone know the reason why CD-RW's (or CD-R's ?) are problematic for the unit though? That's a bit crappy if they can't play any - as I would be looking to throw in 6 compilation CDs that I make up, nothing like a bit of Aerosmith, Beatles and Coldplay to drive down the old motorway to.

But with an MP3 CD-R, you can have 3 aerosmith albums, 3 beatles albums and 3 coldplay albums all on the same CD. :D (I only know of 2 coldplay albums though... :) ) Set that CD onto random play and there's a good 100 songs probably it can randomly select.

that's true - but the 6CD autochanger doesn't handle mp3 does it? And what other CD players could be fitted to my Fabia then?

Regards,

I went for the best of both worlds, an mp3/dab blaupunkt hu and a blaupunkt 10 cd changer. The original changer works well and changes disks quickly, so if you are random playing across all 6 disks the track gaps are a reasonable length.

The skoda changer is made by panasonic so quality should be good to start with.

Almost any - there's tons of choice out there, and only small little mods needed to be got, like an aerial booster, to enable them to work fully with our cars. :speaker:

No problem. Thanks for getting back

I was specifically asked if I'd used CD-RW - rewritables - with my busted autochanger as 'they cause problems' but no elaboration as to why. I expect it's something to do with wavelength of the laser unit. Daft way of questioning as you're hardly likely to say 'yes' when trying to get another unit under warranty! But I hadn't used any CD-RWs (or any copies) anyway.

CD-Rs - once recordable type - are supposedly OK the dealer said during the conversation.
