05 Fabia vrs remapped without knowing

Featured Replies

Insurance companies have weird ways sometimes, my premium is still around a grand but that's also due to the type of use and mileage requirements :(

I did drop the mileage down a fair chunk though and that knocked 300 quid off straight away..

Are other car manufacturer dealers just as bad, selling a modded car without advertising it as such?

Maybe they treat it as just another 2nd hand car and are selling it effectively sold-as-seen. Just because its a skoda and their a skoda dealer doesnt neccessarily mean anything especially if its not come from them originally.

But if you definately dont wont the map then i probalby would go back to them and complain. You can bet if do go back to them for any related warranty work they might turn around and refuse it. I'm surprised your insurance went up so much, but it does depend on who you are with. Your better off trying the more mod friendly insurers, ou might get it down a lot more.

the dealer might not have known about the remap, unlikely but possible.

got my insurance sorted its gone up 400.

Best solution that ;)

I think an insurance company would have to dig pretty deep to find out whether the car is remapped depending on the quality of the mapping, I dont think its worth 400 quid, money better spent towards an upgraded clutch. Maybe thats a bit cheeky of me:rofl:

Is there any way of seeing if a car has been remapped just by looking at VAG COM?

Cheers

James

You can log the torque / power output IIRC

Also requested boost will peak quite a bit higher when mapped in general

Depends how you look at it really.. If the OP had got it mapped back then his clutch still sounds like the worst has been done and will fail sooner rather than later (though, admittedly, even sooner with the map)..

So the cost of a clutch is a write off anyway.

The cheapest route would have been to get the dealer to map it back and stump up for some of the cost, if not all of the cost of a clutch. The OP said the salesman was the previous owner.. they knew.. they must have done! But I doubt it would have panned out this way.

By paying the £400 hike and keeping the map the OP has in effect got a free map (or paid for a map and retained the same cost of insurance, depending which way round you look at it).. The only issue is now that He'll have to get a clutch.

I tried logging torque post map and vag com didn't seem to like measuring torque once the engine is mapped. which was a bummer

Even £400 seems a high increase for a remap. I have just been quoted and extra £110 on my insurance for a remap of max 180bhp (which I think is very reasonable).

I made a claim last year and only have 1 years NCB so my insurance record is not sparkling. I also picked up 3 points at the end of last year. I'm 25 btw.

It does seem a big increase.

Has anyone's Clutch actually blew up after a remap?
