New tyre!!! How expensive!

Featured Replies

I could not believe it when i got a puncture on wednesday! :squint:

I thought fine, go to the SK garage, get a repair puncture for 15 squid and jobs a gooden... but they had other ideas... :tired: ...the pin had gone into the tyre too close to the tyre wall to repair... :thumbdwn: ...then they told me that the replacement tyre was

so i put that on the car and the budget tyre on the Spare wheel... spare tyre... 150 squid... why?!?

Apparently the tyres are 'W' rated or something' date=' and for cars who do speeds in excess of 150mph, why in the world are they on the standard furdy?!

Overengineering...I suspect they don't want customers testing out the limits of the car and having the tyres disintegrating. Would be very bad publicity.

Likewise, they wouldn't want someone putting the spare on, testing out the limits, etc.

They also probably have a bulk contract with the tyre supplier, so they aren't going to buy a load of budget tyres for the spare wheels...

The budget wheel still cost

Michelin tyres are expenisve full stop

I had a similar situation and just put my spare on the alloy and got a

You don't say to what car you have these tyres fitted and the dimensions of the tyre. I'm expecting for the price you've been quoted I take it they're somewhere around 17" tyres.

I have the bog-standard tyres that came with my Fabia 1.9TDI hatch. They are Dunlop Sport SP200 185/60R 14". I had to change my front tyres at 32000 as I had got a nasty bulge in the passenger front. If I hadn't I could have got another several thousand out of them.

My rear tyres are the same ones which came with the car when bought. I'm now up to 46000+ and they're are only starting to look a little icky around the edges of the tyre. The tread in the middle of the tyre is still fine. Having said that rear-tyres do very little apart from gripping the road. I will probably consider them to be replaced soon. I'm hoping they will last to 50000. The fronts take all the brunt of course and to hear that people have to change their tyres every 10,000 or 12,000 miles seems to indicate that there are lots of mad-ass drivers on the roads.

I drive for fuel-economy not speed by the way, so maybe that's why I don't get through them like everyone else seems to.

However, for replacement front tyres - I got charged

These are for the Fabia vRS.

The Tyre size is 205/45 16 83W

These are rarer than the equivelant 17" tyre and end up more expensive.

Dunno if this would suffice:-

205/45R16 W Toyo Proxes

The Toyo Proxes are miles better than the Michelins as well (apart from wear rate)

Hmm, I was quoted

cheerrs guys,

i got a 77 tyre for the spare and put the same one on to the car. Now i have one worn more than the other...!

Where can i get the same tyre, but cheaper??

don't want to pay

I don't think Ws are rated to 150mph+, I believe them be Z rated. Seems expensive to me.

Yokohamas for me next.

In that size, prices inc VAT and delivery. Need to add
