Amazing what mud flaps can do!!

Featured Replies

I have them on the back of my estate (none on the front though), and tailgate seems to be like a magnet for dirt. Almost as bad as a mk1 Focus.....

front ones do work quite well with stopping mud etc splashing your bodywork however they do nothing to prevent the spray from going up the bodywork, if that makes sense.

I fitted my Front mud flaps a while ago and they have saved a lot of snow grit and other road grim scratching the sides of the car.

A pic against silver also.

might have to get some for my car as you can see once its dried the direction of travel from wheel and up the sides. :(

I fitted some front ones yesterday. Did anyone else find them a bit of a PITA to bend into position so they lined up with the screw holes? Mine also seem to make the car louder (more wind noise) on the motorway. Hopefully will keep the sides a bit cleaner though on the plus side

I bought some a few months ago for peanuts from the dealer, and STILL not fitted them yet! Got to give the car a clean first as well as clear out the muck from behind the arches (Thanks for the tips there Jamie).

Thanks for the pics though, I did wonder what they would look like on a silver car. Don't look too bad!

Those mudflaps are going the same way as your Leon Cupra splitter!

PM me and we can sort out a Saturday when we're both free and I'll come over and help you do the mudflaps and wheel arch clean, we can do the air pump as well

I've got some fronts fitted now as well as a cupra splitter:D i think they add to the cars look and blend in with the rubbing strips quite nicely;)

OMG now this comes up lol

If you purchase the genuine ones then yes all fittings come with the mud flaps. Some plastic rivets, screws etc.

Mine fitted nicely, using the existing holes up the arch, and under the sill.

cheers mate, for 14 squid its good. hope to try stop some stone chips on the back door and front of the front door. all from the wider wheels as I never noticed it with the std ones.

Cheers mate, I'll give you a shout sometime. Same applies to you! The air pump would be a good job for the summer!

a fiver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how?

a fiver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how?

Went to collect my car after its service, saw a sign on their desk for mk1 flaps for a fiver, and that's that really! Just good timing I guess. :)

damn lol

oh well 14 is cheap enough lol

Well they looked so good on the 2 silver examples in this thread I have bit the bullet and ordered a full set :D

I take it they use the wheel arch screws for fixing or do they clip on?

Cheers Kenny and Bowders for the pics

Mine have 3 screws in them (2 in arch, 1 under sill) and 2 plastic clip things that hold the flaps onto the edge of the wing.

Guess your need some extra screws for the holes under the sills, but you can use the arch liner screws for the other holes.

I took off both arch liners and mudflaps this weekend to give it all a good clean. There was a fair bit of crap stuck behind the liners and flaps, so glad it's done. Treated all the bits with silicone spray so looks good as new now!

i doin that mate

it should prolong the life of the sills i think. plus get rid of some weight lol

cheers for the info.

I'd buy a couple of extra screws for the top holes in the mudflaps, they supply a couple of plastic rivets with them and you are supposed to line the mudflap up then drill a hole through the arch liner (it's marked with an x in the plastic) and use the rivet to hold the top of the flap to the liner, but the rivet is such a piece of cr*p (broke both of mine!) I'd use a couple of screws instead

I dont drop down high kerbs very often, it can also ground on a dropped kerb into the road. They are guaranteed to scrape coming out of the NCP car park at work on the speedhump by the barrier and it scrapes each and every time my car drives down the private road to SWMBO's work

Don't get that on the 4x4 :D just vertigo

Yeah dont bother with the plastic rivets use self tapping screws, no need to drill a hole then too. I painted the head of the screws black so not to show up aswell.

Still love the look of mine and they defo help keep the car cleaner.

They're not mud flaps, THESE are mudflaps (said in a crocodile dundee style!)

(our old track car)

Are these flaps the front equivalent to the useless ones we have on the back of the VRS already? Could do with some front ones to keep it clean

  • 8 months later...

Just ordered a set - $48 delivered to the stealer from Germany!!

I've got these front & rear on mine. I thought they came as standard. Obviously not but I can't remember seeing an RS Octy without them.

The rears are standard, fronts are not.
