Smoke when i speed up!?

Featured Replies

I know diesels are smoky by their nature at times. However i'm getting a ploom when i put the power down in 3rd and 4th.

Just remapped so wondering if the computer is confused and the diesel particle filter is acting up!? Or it's just burning more fuel??

any advice guys and gals???

Regards!

Me too. I just put a new (jetex) "performance" filter in mine to see if that helps. Result = inconclusive :(

I think a bit of smoke is normal though with diesels.

Its the remap mate, nothing to worry about, they all do it. Its just injecting more fuel than before. Its great fun if you have someone up your bumper coming onto a motorway etc, you put your foot down and smoke 'em! LOL

If you keep low revs, like going about town, then go onto a faster road and put your foot down, its even worse. You cant see out your rear mirror.

Just watch you dont put the foot down between 1000 and 2500rpm, if it has a standard clutch and is anything like mine, it will judder and slip the clutch with the torque. (im running about 180brake)

i think we'll have to compare smoke here will we not??

we talking whisps? clouds? or fog?

im getting a grey, that turns black just at the end. it doesnt appear to be causing problems, im assuning it is excess fuel burning. But just thought id check

so nothing major to worry about!

i did actually crack that joke earler today as i gunned past my driving instructor on a duel carriageway at 120+........ "i smoked him" was the shout. ha ha!

cheers for the advice!

When was your last oil change?

You might find it gets worse once its had a chance to build up a bit. But defo nothing to worry about, especially if its only a little black smoke, might just mean your map is better set up for the car than mine

BTW welcome to briskoda, nice to see another from central scotland. . .

last oil change........in all honesty havent a clue. Had the car for exactly a month as of tomorrow. It was serviced and MOT'd as part of my deal. So perhaps then? but couldn't be 100% sure on that one.

I'll investigate and maybe ask them to change oil tomorrow. I'm sticking it in as its still got warranty as part of the deal. If they find sometihng then all well and good, if not - even better.

Vrsmeansyellow - what did your map give you. Minus a rolling road i got assured it wasnt any lower than 170...remains to be seen though!

Cheers for the welcome. I'm down in Greenock - but figured it be easier to write glasgow instead. where exactly r u??

Ive actually not got a remap, but a Dastek piggy back unit, that manipulates the ecu's signals. Ive never been on a rolling road either, but i can pull away from my mates cupra which is about 180 brake standard, so i tell people i have 180brake, :P

Im over the other side mate, South Queensferry. . . maybe meet you at a gathering sometime though,

Cool Cool that be good, saw some chat of a Glasgow/Ayrshire meet. But as ever with these things a lack of a date.

gonna hit the pit now...gonna beat the rush hour traffic up to the garage and open her up a bit n see what exactly happens regarding smoke.

Cheers for the advice. No doubt be in touch through this!

Catch Yeh'!

mines does this a bit and mines standard

Change your air filter or get a performance one like K&N. Get the PD160 from the Ibiza Cupra if you don't have one yet. You can also turn the EGR down a bit via VAGCOM. Should smoke less after these.

And as far as I know it's not that good to smoke, as the smoke means a lot of soot that can clog the VNT of the turbo.

Nah nah nah, Mine smokes like hell and its all good

you invesitgated it further and found it was nothing or just ignoring it??

That's the garage just off the phone. Keeping car overnight now to fit new fuel pump and air filter. God knows what kinds, but should at least halt the black smoke in the interim.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and help!!

Liam.

At what Year of Manufacture did they start fitting DPF'S Diesel Particulate Filters to the Vrs's ?? As by there design they Trap all the Soot & burn off later @ a scheduled point in time Etc. I had a Vectra Cdti Estate which had a Dpf & after the remap it smoked no more, But did do more frequent Dpf regenerations.

I dont think there fitted to the Fabia vRS but then again i could be wrong.

no fabia vRS ever had a DPF - They just have normal cats as stock.

This FRIDAY at 7.30pm meeting just off the M77 at the main roundabout into Kilmarnock at the Petrol Station (cant remember its name lol)

PM me if your wanting to come along bud ;)

I'm down in Greenock

is it a silver vrs yourve got m8?

if so im the guy that has the black vrs saw you the other week at tesco

Get yourself a pd 160 intake, these help with the smoke, and change the filter for a k+n or something.

why would that help with smoke ?

why would that help with smoke ?

PD160 + new or performance air filter = bigger air flow.

Bigger air flow = more oxygen = better combustion of diesel = less soot (from unburned diesel) = less smoke = slightly better performance. :o
