New turbo needed for my 54 VRS

Featured Replies

A week ago on sunday I noticed a terrible noise coming from the engine bay at between 2k revs and 3k.

It went into the dealers for other issues the following day. A couple of days later I rang to see if they had located the noise telling them I thought it was the turbo. They said it was fine and ready to pick up, but I told them there was a problem and to investigate further.

I then rang the next day and they said there was a problem with the turbo and a Skoda engineer would have to come and access the problem, and then yesterday they rang me to tell me I'm getting a new turbo fitted under warranty (along with a wheel bearing:eek:).

I wouldn't have expected a turbo to go after 60k, Im glad I bought a Skoda approved car with a warranty though.

They still haven't told me what the issue is but I must say I'm quite impressed there was no argument about it:).

Sorry about the long post but just wanted to share the news.

So you had a good result with your warranty, I bet your pleased. Turbo u/s at 60k? well some last for years and some don't, like other parts of a car some things are just unpredictable, hope thats the end off your troubles for sometime to come. Another 'Skoda Happy Driver'

Good job its being done under warranty because turbo's are not cheap.

My KKK turbo went pop at 68k.18 months out of warranty.Garrett replacement cost £705.Ouch.

If you have a standard Turbo and stick to a standard map, and change oil at 5,000 miles, and you are not unlucky, the turbo could last to 200K or more. Shaft floats in an oil film type bearing, much like a big end shell.
