Air-con pump question

Featured Replies

I have a fault with the air-con, it does not function on number 1 setting,

I was advised at my last service (by skoda) that a re-gas would in all

probability cure this as he put it down to a lack of pressure in the system.

Took it for a re-gas yesterday to Kwik-fit ( yes I know but only £25 ), he tested

the pressure to start with and said it was fine and there was no point

having it done. They didn't have the right kit there to properly diagnose

the fault but he thought it might be the air-con pump and I need to get

it properly tested, anyone any advice please on how much a replacement

pump, fiited, would be?? ( arm and a leg job I suppose:( )

I will pop in my local dealership for a chat tomorow

Thanks :)

when you say "number one setting" what exactly does this mean ?

that the aircon doesn't work when the fan is set to one ?

More likely to be the control panel rather than the pump. Best to have it scanned for fault codes.

Yes, as you say, the yellow light on the AC indicator works fine on fan settings

2 and above, but goes off on number 1 setting.

More likely to be the control panel rather than the pump. Best to have it scanned for fault codes.

As above, air-con (AC indicator on dash) stays illuminated and works fine on

settings 2/3/4 but 'drops out' on setting 1, yellow light goes out.

Air-con functions ok when AC is lit (on settings2 and above) but is definitely

not operating when AC is set to fan level 1.

As you say, I'll have it scanned for faults, I had a PM from someone with

the same problem, just thought it might be a common fault.

Cheers.:)

Mine doesn't work on one, I guessed it was because I could fart stronger then the fan on 1

A/C should definitely be working when the fan is on position 1 though...

Mine works on position 1......

Best to get it scanned as there may be a fault with the control...?

....unless the newer ones have a different settings, mines a 54 reg?

Mine used to work on position1, mine's a 54 (Jan 05) too, so should be the same

components.

I will call in the dealers for a scan, as you say, may be a simple fault:)

It's nothing to do with the AC itself. There is a resistor pack that controls the voltage requested to the fan, for each setting 1,2,3,4. This resistor sits up behind the dash, above and to the right of the glovebox. I bet the "1" speed has packed up, hence no voltage, and no fan spinning. It's only a matter of time before the other ones pack up too, so best to get a new resistor pack. :)

This might help ;)

Thanks for that Jason, will get it checked, hopefully not too expensive if your

diagnosis is correct:) Though that depends on their labour req'd I suppose.
