Known dealers that will retrofit Maxidot?

Featured Replies

OK - looks like I am being let down by my local dealer.

I spoke in great lengths to somebody at Vindis Skoda, Cambridge about having Maxidot retro-fitted to my vRS.

They agreed for an hours labour.

So I ordered the part from the Czech Republic (not cheap) and I have the item ready to go.

However now I cannot speak to or get an email response from the person at Vindis and anyone else I speak to tells me I need to speak to this guy.

So I've got a rather expensive Maxidot Dash Pod and currently no way of getting it fitted.

I live half way between Cambridge & Peterborough.

Does anyone know of any dealer within say a 1-2hr drive of me that will take on the retrofit of a Maxidot display and do all the neccessary coding, mileage entry etc?

In the meantime I'll keep on trying Vindis but it isn't looking good.

*Upset with my current expensive door stop*

It's a little over 2hrs from Cambridge, but i used Faintree in Bridgnorth who did a great job & only charged me an hours labour.

Thats Near Telford by the way.

Thanks for that.

I've just fired off an email to Als Lock (just outside Ely).

Their guy has just come back saying the service manager is not there today, however he will ask him tomorrow and get back to me.

If I have no luck there - well basically I'll look into the Telford option, not a real issue if they can do the work while I wait.

Stoofa - I haven't ordered mine yet - putting it on hold for a while in the hope that the exchange rate improves.

I did contact Autohaus at Northampton who said they would fit it for an hour's labour, though may need the car for longer (might give you time to take a few others out for test drives).

I think chriskite on Briskoda also had his fitted there - you might want to PM him to check if everything is OK.

How much are maxi dots to buy ?

From www.Skodateile.cz

- 263 Eu including postage - have to pay by bank transfer

Hi Stoofa, as mentioned earlier in this thread I had mine fitted at Autohaus in Northampton while I waited. If you are coming from the east they are on the right side of town, just of the A45. If you want anymore info feel free to PM me. :) I have just fitted a MFD3/Columbus/RNS 510 and the way it all integrates with the Maxidot is soooo nice :D:D

Added MFD3 info so that I can gloat

Go on Bryan, order it. I brought a MFD3 although I could not really afford it (who needs to eat any way!) The two items really work well together. :)

Cheers Chris - I had gone off the idea, but it might be back on now - no time like the present, I suppose - got to spend it on something !

Glad you managed to get hold of an MFD3 - so far maps have been spot on, and the alternative route feature to select one of three different routes is brilliant. Was yours an ebay purchase as well ?

Bryan

Yes mate , Ebay from naviandbmwparts. I could always take some piccies and post them on here to tempt you further :D

I've already got the RNS510 installed - to be honest that was the main reason for the Maxidot Retrofit too as I'd seen these two play really nice together.

I've been promised a call back from the Ely people by lunchtime, if I've not heard anything then I'll contact Autohaus.

I don't mind hanging around for the job to be completed, most Skoda places I've been in tend to have quite nice waiting areas :)

I'm intrigued - what is it that Maxidot and MFD3 (I assume that is the Columbus satnav) do so well together?

You'll get sat nav instructional pictures on the maxidot, as well as other info from the radio.

mannyo - there doesn't seem to be a link on your post, but I get the picture. Sounds pretty cool!

Does Maxidot do anything funky with a plain old Stream HU?

Just updated the post,

you do get info from the stream, including radio station being listened to and if listening to a CD the track info is displayed (but no id3 tags if stream mp3).

I contacted Autohaus yesterday and got a reply this morning.

No problem at all and they can arrange a date/time via email - excellent service.

2 minutes later I get an email from my more local dealer in Cambridge offering the same.

Now I can't decide.

Cambridge is closer, but I get the impression they haven't done one of these before, however I'm sure it will go fine.

Autohaus is about an hour away, but they have done them before and know exactly what they are doing.

Just need the dealer in Ely to get back to me now and I'll have to pick from three :)

If you've got any pics of the maxidot showing the sat nav it would be appreciated - I presume the maxidot menu will allow you to alter other settings on the car by using the button on the end of the right-hand stalk - is that right ? I've already got the MFD3 and posted pictures of day and night views in other threads.

If they have replaced an instrument cluster under warranty then they have done what needs to be done before, so it shouldn't be too difficult for your local guys to do it. I'd get it done there and save some fuel!

Hi Bryan, i'll take some piccies tomorrow and post them so that you can drool over your keyboard

I decided on Autohaus in the end :)

Only because they were a lot quicker at replying to me - hours instead of days.

The email responses were also a little friendlier.

And finally they can fit me in at 9:00am on Wednesday - yay!

Keep us posted

Took some piccies today, but the file sizes are too big. Cropped one of them down to show you. Will take some more tomorrow at a lower resolution.

Here's one just to tease you :D
