Best TDi engine in Superb?

Featured Replies

I have been reading these forums with interest recently. Seems the general concensus among you guys is that the best engine is the 1.9 TDi 130 lump yes? I remember when I bought my car the choice for 1.9 TDi was limited to 100 and 130 BHP units. But on looking at some used car adverts recently I've seen 1.9 TDi 105 and 115 bhp engines. When did these come in? And more importantly what are they like?

Of course I read up on the 2.0 TDi 140 bhp with great interest. I never knew about that particle filter ****** on the Superbs. So glad I came here for the advice. :)

Have a 2.0 TDi and am interested to find out about the particle filter ****** please

Any one want to fill me in with the problem related to the particle Filter on the 2.0 TDi engines? PLEASE

My understanding (and I may very well be wrong) is that the latest oil burners are now fitted with particle filtration in the 'zorst. I read reports that if people bimble around then this filter doesn't ever do it's job properly and get's clogged, creates fault codes and may go into limp mode

For me it has to be the V6 TDi. Have enjoyed 3 years and just over 100K of motoring with it. What's to say, well...

1. Always get a minimum of 42mpg and maximum on real long journeys in the high 40's.

2. Only requires a service every 22k.

3. Its a lazy engine I agree, but unusually for a diesel can be reved to 4000rpm with no loss of thrust or urgency.

4. Will do 139mph if that floats your boat.

5. Tows my 23ft caravan with relative ease (please don't mock too much for this one!!)

6. But best of all by a country mile is that you get that muted V6 engine noise in the background and not a rattley 4pot.

To me it's a no brainer really and I test drove the 2 ltr 140bhp back to back with it.

I can't comment on the cost, because its run as a fully expenced company car, but its not put a foot wrong so far and I keep a copy of all the items changed at the services and that hasn't been much so far.

hi there ritchie 18....well i have a 2.0 tdi comfort superb with the diesel particle filter....and i have had no issues with it...no warning lights on dash board or anything like that....i have had a very slight worry as ive bought the car from new, and that was when driving at night i noticed the headlights were quite dim and the revs crept up to 1000 rpm....i sent off a post on here and was told it was the diesel particle filer burning off soot...hence the weird smell coming from the rear...it does it on average every 3-4 mths but with no problems.

When it happens the engine control senses a partial blockage in the filter and a small solution is then added to the fuel which in turn heats up to a higher temp when combusted and in turn burns off the deposits in the filter..called regeneration......but as for issues with the dpf.....i havent had any at all.

My wife does a lot of local driving and she hasnt reported anything sinister with warning lights...and once a week we give the car a bit of a blast on motorway to keep everything clear ....so far so good...and in my opinion...it is a nice car to drive.cheers....andy

I totally agree - I would not change my V6 TDI for anything else.

My 06/06 V6TDI Tip Elegance has now just cleared 70k, 60k while I have had it. Still enjoying the car and its toys regardless of the maintenance and wouldn't really know what else to look for.

Apart from routine oil / filter changes every 10k the only problems have been a cracked fuel run back valve (warranty) and a new gear lever (ouch! at £200 fitted)

Just had the belts / water pump changed (all GSF) - another ouch! but not too bad if you buy the bits over time and only get hit with labour. VAS Motion, Guildford did a good job. MPG is 35 - 43 / no oil between changes.

Quick update. Got all cambelt-related jobs done last week while back home in Workington - Reedlands Auto Centre. Also got new front disks and pads. Total bill £592. I don't think that's too bad and the guys were really friendly and helpful.
