Might be going to look at a couple as possible Track days cars.

Is there anything in particulair I should look for? one is a 1.6 the other a 1.9

Thanks in advance

Cheers Stuart

Methinks you should get in touch with Si or Rich Horton ... both running 205s

I think the 1.9 is the one to have....

1.9 with the 1.6 gear box i have heard is quite rapid, but not much on top speed.

Go for the cheapest and go down the MI16 conversion route!

Potster, the 1.9 is the one to go for. I got wacked by a fully modified one in my class last sunday at Ty Croes. Hell of a nice guy though  and his car had had just about every conceivable mod you could think of! There's so much you can do to them and the bits n pieces are readily available too at a reasonable price.

Excellent choice IMHO.

Oh and by the way it wasn't just me...he also beat a gaggle of Westfields and was only 3 seconds down on a 400+ bhp 4WD Sierra Cosworth and Porsche 968 (?) 4WD too! ...over 2 laps!

Thought i would add my weight to this debate.

As nick says, both me and richorton run a pair of puggy 205 gti's in the british rallycross championship. (www.hortonracing.co.uk)

I have always prefered the 1.6 to the 1.9 in standard trim as the engines are only 10bhp down and are a much more revvy engine and easier to keep on the boil when flat out! The 1.9 is more long legged and would probubly be better on big flowing circuits, but as a small trackday / sprint car i would defo use the 1.6. Incidentally, i also used to us a 1.6 for road rallying, where the 1.6 is definatelly favoured over the 1.9.

However :D, if u have some mechanical knowlage or have some cash spare i would highly recommend sorting yourself out with a MI16 engined 205. We have just finished building one and it is truely awesome (look on our site for pictures).

We where on track at the end of last month and we where keeping pace with westfield megabusa's and lotus exiges! (most of the pit lane came over to see what we had under the bonnet :D )

si

 Well spoken si,like si says a good 1600 gti will out pull a 1900 to a point and then the 1900 will out pull the little 1600.its all to do with the gearbox, the little 1600 uses a lower ratio gearbox than the 1900 but the 1600 is more revy than the 1900,my choice would be the little 1600  Or like si says why not try and find a mi16(there a real tool) :D have a good look at our web site  If your using it for track days i do think you should get it lowered, just look what happens when i lent my rally car to my dad.oh dear it all ended in tears for him  the ride height was to high and it got a big roll on in corners so do get it lowered

show me the way to the big hammer and the tub off body filler

I have have a 93k plate 1.9 gti for sale the paint has some sun damage but the car is as follows,12months mot, full magnex s/steel exhaust cost
