Well every little helps, the planning is the fun bit. Get it all set out in your head and it will go together in just a few hours. I had months of planning, ask Gerry

It was a pleasure to help mate, your welcome anytime:thumbup:

As for the earlier question about lag from an ABD Racing FMIC, as most will know I had one on my old Octy vRS for years, and never, ever a trace of turbo lag.

It just seems to be the right size for the car when modded and still retaining the KO3's.

Never a trace of heat soak even when ragging it on hot days.

Had I not have had the ABD one, then I would have given Mart's one a go:thumbup:

SWMBO has found out and is very displeased. I told her it wasn't my fault, it was the nice man from briskoda, but she's having none of it. :(

Cheers Gerry.

Garry that pipe work looks ok to me, i just don't know how your going to make the switch over from the AUQ inlet manifold to the BAM manifold. There are loads of pipes in the wrong place and the throttle connection is on the opposite side.

Yeah, it will be fun im sure. Im not fussed about the pipes as i can extend or shorten those as required, the same with the wires to the throttle.

Im going to have a really good look tomorrow and try and get an idea of exactly what is involved. If it looks to hard then i will just re sell the BAM manifold (its been thermal coated now) and do a nice set up like yours :D

Shall keep you posted mate.

I still have not got those maf pipes made up yet either, lol.

Kind Regards

Garry

:eek::eek: Glad i didn't wait then :D

Good luck i hope you find a way to fit it as this looks the best way to do it.

I've had a good look today at routing the intercooler pipes past the battery, but everything seems extremely tight indeed.

  • 2 weeks later...

All the pieces have finnally arrived. Even got a refund on postage as the intercooler was out of stock when I originally oredered it  Just a pity I'm going away for a couple of days tomorrow so I can't put on the car yet. Oh well, gives my brother a bit more time to finish the tooling he's making for beading the pipes.

Out of interest. What tooling design are you using for the beading?

No idea mate, my bro has the use of lots of machinery at work, so whatever he comes up with I suppose. He did mention something about little wheels though. I'll take some pics when he does them for me.

Managed to get a bit more done on mine today. I made up some brackets and mounted the cooler itself a couple of weeks ago but I've manage to delete the photos of that bit. Not really much different from Oggys tbh.

Anyway, today, I've got all the pipes cut to length. See pics below:

All I need to do now is get the ends of the pipes beaded and I can put it all together properly

Damn i new i should have patterned this setup lol.

Looks good, I like your ramps where did you get em and is there enough clearance to get under with the bumper on?

looking good mate - mine is going to have to go on hold seeing as I spent a whole lot more than I planned on my "remap"... :(

I knew someone would ask me about the ramps! They're not mine but due to still living at home I get to use all my Dad's cool stuff:thumbup: He got them made for him by one of his rally mates, originally so he could get his Lotus Sunbeam high enough to get the jack under. I use them for the very same reason and they don't scrape the bumper. I asked if he could get another set for me but he's since upset the bloke who made them by failing his rally car at noise test .

You can get a set off ebay, just such for wrc ramps, but they ain't cheap at around £200 a pair

Very Smart indeed :)

I'm debating doing a universal one myself ... cheaper than forge one...

Its certainly coming on niceyellow vrs:thumbup:.

Will you have any problems connecting the inlet manifold hose to the map sensor tube though?

When I built mine, the outlet section from the IC to the inlet manifold, I built it backwards to suit the map sensor tubing.

I cut the map sensor tubing as short as I dare, remembering I needed to bead it & put a jubilee clip on, then I cut my silicone hose to the inlet manifold back a bit to shorten it. Probably cut It back 2"/3" past the Forge lettering on your hose, just before bend.

I then worked backwards to the IC.

Edited by Oggy

It should be fine. I too worked backwards, starting from where I'm going to cut theTB pipe. I've already cut the map sensor pipe down but I'll proberbly trim just a little bit more.

I like the fact they advertise it for the octi and fabia which are in no way similar set ups and then say:

Please Note: Some modifications are required to fit this kit on the OCTAVIA and FABIA

Personally I would copy what myself & Martin have done. You could try fitting that kit, but looking at the way the piping Is bent on the picture, I can't see how It will fit.

Loks like some ebay shopping is in order then you gits:rotz:

looks very good indeed , have notice reduce in temp !

What are the ebay coolers like then??? much diff between one of these and a forge jobbie???

The Forge cooler is a twin pass design. The Ebay one we use is a single pass. The single pass is more efficient but it still needs to be routed back on itself.

The Forge one is a lot taller and requires a modified crash bar to fit. It has the inlet and outlet on the same side which means much shorter pipe length. In essence, the Forge unit is proberbly superior but I decided to go the universal route as I just can't justify spending the extra £500 for the gains it would produce. However, if I was going down the big turbo route, I'd proberbly have the Forge one.

Yeah sorry i should have been more specific... i've seen the propper forge one with the crash bar and bits... but they do a smaller universal one wich has the inlet and outlet on opposite ends that is dearer than the ebay jobbies but much cheaper than the propper one...

just wondered what the quality of the ebay coolers are like quality wise... ( just dont wanna go down the old saying you buy cheap you buy twice!!!)
