Featured Replies

some chav in his ibiza who had been tailgating me today ran into the back of my octy when i had to brake hard when a cat ran out in front of me!,front of his car was fooked big style but only damage to mine is scratches on rear bumper! & the tail pipe looks to be bent down a bit but its never been level with bumper as anyway, i cant believe how strong octy is & how good octy brakes are!!:) car goes in sometime next week for repair, the tit admitted it was his fault!

Don't want to break bad news to you, but chance are there is more damage than a broken bumper if he caused significant damage to the ibiza. Make sure you get it properly checked over and fixed

I would have hit the cat.

bumper isnt broken, its not even out of shape or alignmentjust got lots of light scratches all over it, i had car up on ramp at work & gave it a good look over & couldnt see anything wrong, had boot carpet up & all is well,i suspect there was damage already done to the ibiza before he ran into me,it was a shed of a car,i washed it when i got home & all the white marks came off so it doesnt look half as bad as it first did!if his insurance wasnt paying i wouldnt be doing anthing about it,i reckon a bumper repaint is all thats req to make car mint again!:)

cat ran off into field with not a care in the world! i was more likely to hit the chav! swmbo is a cat lover so she was more bothered about the cat than me or the car! she changed her mind when she saw me giving chav boy a good *******ing though!:) little git wouldnt get out of his car at first:D.

Phew! Well thats good news then

i would have hit the cat.

:+1:

I would have hit the cat.

I would have accelerated to make sure the f*%£er didn't get away!

Sorry but I've had hit the cat.

Sure somewhere it says you shouldn't brake hard/swerve to miss an animal where it is a risk to another road user. I know somebody totalled their car into a tree missing an animal.

its a shame you didnt have a tow bar fitted coz that would really have torn his front apart. to be honest i would run over a person who i saw shooting an air rifle at the cat.

I can't quite remeber if it is the highway code or, not but it my understanding if you hit a dog you should check that the dog is ok, and have to report it, but if you hit a cat then there is no legal requirement to stop.

Also, I think in Germany (iirc) they recommend your hit any animal that is smaller than a deer rather than to avoid by swerving.

i'd be surprised if yours and his insurance company don't tell you to fook off:rotz:

Yep there's a section in the highway code saying that! You have to stop if you hit a dog because people 'own' them, where as in the highway code cats are classed as vermin

The problem is that its an instinctive reaction to brake when something appears in front of you, its in built to most drivers who have done quite a few miles.

You do it without realising, and then regret not getting rid of another feline mobile crap depositor.

Why do they never do it in their own garden, and cat owners think it is natural for the cats to do it in yours?

If the tit was not so close he would have been able to stop in time

Does it say in the highway code it's fine sit up someones **** and run into the back of them because you can't stop in time

you should not brake hard to avoid hitting a cat unless safe to do so. In your case it seems it wasn't.

Yes but it is the driver's responsibility to ensure they can stop in time should they have to and that means leaving a proper gap between the car in front. Whether it was a cat or a person the fact remains that he couldn't stop in time when the driver in front of him had to stop.

Glad you getting it sorted.

Phil

That is such a self righteous bull **** answer. The bloke behind admitted fault therefore he knew he was driving too close.

As previously stated instinct takes over, things such as swerving when someone appears like they are about to pull out on you or braking when something runs out cannot be trained out, they are the things that reduce our chances of accidents usually but occasionally they can actually cause them.

Not at all. A colleague of mine was once hit head on by an elderly gent who swerved to miss a pheasant. My colleague was pretty badly hurt.

Was the old boy right?

Different circumstances mate so I couldn't possibly say, in this case it is clear from what we are being told that the driver behind was to close to take avoiding action which resulted in this collision. Had this been a child this would be clear cut but as it is a cat which should have been at home crapping in a litter tray whilst eating felix people start making judgements

I really am appalled that fellow members think harming an animal, simply because they dont like them, is acceptable behaviour.

There is a case for harming an animal rather than having an accident involve another person / vehicle / animal. Personally I have run over a couple of rabbits and a pheasant on a single track road. I would like to know what Gadgeman would do. Write off his car by crashing through a bank, or hit the animal in the road. I know what I would rather do, obviously no injury is the objective, but animals don't understand that. Maybe cat owners should be forced to pay insurance for their 'beasts'.

avoiding the cat or not, the ibiza driver will always be in the wrong, every single time a crash investigator looks at this accident, because of the pure and simple fact, that the ibiza driver should have left enough braking distance in front of him. its not hard folks.

and seriously, shooting a cat with an air rifol? you wouldn't want me catching you doing that to one of my animals.

Back on topic !!

I had a car run into the back of my old Audi 90 at low speed - and it looked fine at first and I didn't take his details. But later I found that the boot didn't shut properly and water was getting in, so the damage was much worse than it appeared.

Definitely get it checked out properly.

As for running over cats - they are someone's pet. How would you feel to lose a loved family pet?

(I have three cats) :D

on this occasion it was the driver of the ibiza fault.unless the animal runs under the wheels of the car then 99% of the time hitting the animal is avoidable without causing an accident.i think its pathetic to hear grown people trusted with the responsibility of driving a car saying such stupid things about hitting the cat. i suppose these are the sort of drivers who would normally be driving the way the guy in the ibiza was. i second alan vrs but you wouldnt want me catching you do that to any animal let alone my own.

Wow,ive started summat here!!....just to clear a few things up.....the only reason this accident happened is because the guy behind me was travelling far to close to me when i braked hard for approx 5 seconds, there was no swerving out the way etc,the fact it was a cat makes no difference....my natural reaction when anything runs out in front of me is to act accordingly which in this case was to brake...this cat is somebodys pet,i have a cat,i agree that owners should be responsable for them & clean up after them, but i dont approve of any cruelty to ANY animal....if i saw anyone hurting a animal...i would act accordingly....they wouldnt do it again anyway, this could of been a child that ran out,i wasnt speeding, this has been my first "bump" in 18 years of driving...the other guys insurance have confirmed he has amitted liabilty so car goes in this week for repair...as for the comment about our insurance,s telling us to "fook off".....sorry but ive never heard such a stupid comment...:rolleyes:this is why we have car insurance! i only posted orignally to say how impressed i was with the brakes & strength of my octy!!!!:)
