No engine mods for new LV Customers???

Recommended Posts

That sounds like what they were telling me.

Wheels , bodywork , suspension etc were all still fair game but nothing that changed the engine performance. I don't know where the would draw the line with things like air filters etc.

As for not informing them about changes , that sounds very wrong and conflicts with what they have always been telling people about needing to inform them.

It sounds to me like their staff aren't 100% sure of whats on offer , and the advice people are getting over the phone may conflict with whats actually written in the policy.

Not doubting you Dr. Zoidberg (you are a doctor after all) but are you sure they said performance and not capacity?

I have just rung LV with whom my car is insured. The person I spoke to deals with existing policyholders so had to take advice from the department which deals with new policies. LV ARE continuing to offer new insurance for modified cars and their well-documented line on mods stands. If mods cost an extreme amount of money - I was quoted an example of a car which had had

Just been on LV's website and it does say the following

Cars which have not been manufactured for the UK market e.g. Japanese imports.

Cars which have performance enhancing modifications.

At the moment I'm having trouble with insurance and mods current will not have any and other places are double without mods due to my ban!

*sighs* I'm not having a good year

Ignore that. They DO insure cars with such mods. Ring them up.

Ooops - forgot the ban. Have you tried Adrian Flux and Greenlight, or will you have to look at other 'specialists' who take on high risks?

yeah I wish I could forget it to! I've had no accidents in the last 5 year (though one claim due to hit and run) it's garaged and to be honest the car will not get nicked it's never anywhere for any lengh of time!

Wahoo I'm a high risk lol

OK , just phoned back again and this time was told that they do still accept remaps as long as they are told about them , so the remap might be back on after all.
Good news. Now do it... :D

OK , phoned up to get cover with them and asked yet again about engine remaps.

The girl on the phone wasn't 100% sure but thought that anything that improved performance was a no go , so I explained very carefully what was involved emphasising no change of engine capacity etc

She said she would have to check with her manager and call back which she did and was very clear that alloys , suspension mods etc were all fine but any performance enhancements were not allowed for new customers.

I don't know whats going on there , but they are giving very different answers each time people phone up.

I can't afford to take the risk that I may or may not be covered with a remap , and am not prepared to pay more for a policy with them than DL on the chance that it might allow me to get a remap in future.

They really need to make their minds up as this has just cost them my business.

OK Zoidberg, I did a bit of ringing round on your behalf.

(I'm not going to trawl through the whole thread again to find out that you're a compulsive drink driver or that you're trying to find out the maximum speed you can pass a Gatso and it doesn't get you. If you are either of these then maybe this will be of use to others  )

I rang as a policy holder with a general enquiry and got someone who did seem to know what he was talking about. He even said 'chip' I clarified the bit about engine performance v. capacity. As far as he was concerned the former is OK, the latter is a no-no. I also explained that some of their staff were causing a bit of confusion over this issue due to a general lack of automotive knowledge. Fair enough he said, some of the staff don't even drive. I also asked him if a new system was in place that excluded potential policy holders that had enhancements, he went away to ask his supervisor and came back with a definate no. I then asked if it would be possible to have either a name or extension number to call to get someone who knew what they were talking about. After a few minutes he came back and said no (for obvious reasons really  I would have posted them on here) but that you should insist on the sales member contacting the underwriters to clarify. They obviously have more knowledge than the poor saps on telesales so I think this is the route to go down.

I hope this helps.

I appreciate the effort , but if they can't give me a conclusive answer then I'm not prepared to keep ringing back or take out a policy and *then* find out what it actually covers.

Much as it pains me to do it , I've ended up renewing with direct line again.

Maybe I'll have another look in 12 months.

When I took out a new policy a few weeks ago, I raised the question and got the usual blurb from the 1st person I spoke to. That is that as long as the CC of the engine is not increased a chip will be fine, and I had no problems registering mine with them.

Sorry to sound stupid but who is LV? I've been reading through this thread and can't think of any insurance companies that might be abbreviated to LV, I'm sure that when you tell me I'll go... Oh of course it's them

This is my first year of insurance and have been with BellDirect as they were the cheapest for my old Ibiza Cupra 20VT (group 15) now the Furby vRS is a group 9 so hoping when renewal time comes up it'll be a lot cheaper than
