No engine mods for new LV Customers???

Featured Replies

Just got off the phone with LV after getting a quote for insurance , and they tell me that for new customers they are no longer accepting any modifications that will improve engine performance.

This matches what they say on their website about standard cars only

Bodywork , wheels , suspension etc are all fair game (at a cost) but they don't want people going any quicker than they do as standard it would appear.

He said that existing customers will still be offered cover but prices may well increase.

Unless I can find another cheap insurer that don't mind mods and high mileages in the next few days then it looks like no remap for me and back to DL.

I'm not surprised by this change of heart. Their customer base must have been getting a bit skewed towards the performance end of the scale recently.

someone else will want our money..

Many do, but lots of it :(

Yep , can't say I'm too surprised.

Their quote for a standard car with no mileage restrictions and legal cover and hire car included was still pretty competitive (

I just sent of my renewal to LV.

No mention of a change of policy in the paperwork i got so it must be a very recent decision.

I think Greenlight were the usual other option for modded cars weren't they?

Umm well they auto renewed mine, must of binned the reminder as junk mail ho hum.

WIll call them to check up on the car. The premium is about the same as last year and I never hear them typing in the modifications....we'll have to see.

I suspect that they are keeping their existing customers but they are certainly not accepting any new ones.

I phoned back a second time and spoke to someone else and got the same answer - No engine mods.

I suspect (as i think we all did) that they target specific markets for a while and then move on. Very clever i would say.

Looks like those of us who got on board early have been lucky ;)

Well I've filled in the form for a quote at greenlight , but I don't hold out much hope of it being near 500 quid which is as much as I'm prepared to pay

If that's the online form i wouldn't hold your breath. I did this weeks ago and never got an answer.

Better to call them i think :)

Oh joy.

If thats an example of their customer service I might just give up now.

You might want to consider Adrian Flux as well. Haven't experienced their 'legendary' customer support yet, but as I don't expect to crash it, it hasn't bothered me ;)

I got a quote from Adrian Flux via the web and they got back to me in two days they just wanted to know the BHP increase. Went with LV about 3 months ago not had it chipped yet was waiting for my 10000 mile service.

I renewed with LV on 30 August 2004. Just under a

I'd check the details of your policy very carefully then before going ahead.

They may not want existing customers adding new modifications either :(

Hmmm - my renewal with LV is in December - I tell you what if my premium is any more than they predicted after my claim in January, I'm gonna be forced to look elsewhere and maybe return my car quite a lot back to standard! :(

If they are anything like DL who I'm with at the mo , existing customers get to continue their policy complete with T&Cs for as long as they carry on renewing however new customers will get the new style policies that in this case prohibit engine mods.

They said this had been introduced in the last couple of months , so anyone taken on as a brand new customer since then may get a nasty surprise if they didn't check what they are allowed to change on their cars before signing up

Yes DL are very good to 'loyal' customers. I suppose thats got it's advantages. I for example get interest free credit with DL and a few other bit's to boot. Modifications are a bit more dodgy as always however the interst free credit savings I have would maybe pay for a mod. My insurance has not actually risen anything this year and went down which was nice.

I took out a policy with L.V yesterday. All mods are covered. Any future mods are covered. All they said was that I should take photos of everything so if the car does get nicked I'll get some money for them.

New or renewal?

If new , why did two separate people tell me they no longer covered engine mods?

Anyone else fancy phoning up today to check?

Twas a brand new policy.

If it turns out the mods arent covered then I'll be needing to cancel. Its a bit wierd though. I alwaqys took a "too good to be true" attitude towards LV's mod policy so I checked several times with them that the mods were covered.

I rang for a quote yesterday on my Furby vRs and not exactly the cheapest quote I've had (

But the young lady I spoke to said they would not allow any increase in engine capacity (does that mean an ECU upgrade is possible?).
Their line used to be - and maybe still is - that any mod other than an increase in engine capacity is OK. So an ECU remap etc is OK.
