Tearing my hair out - compatible phones

Featured Replies

I had paired two Nokia phones with my new Superb Elegance but all of a sudden it's telling me that the phones are not compatible although they both worked for a bout 6 weeks with no problems.

Can anyone please shed any light on this as I'm travelling to France on Sunday and would like for at least one of the to work

TIA x

Have you tried deleting the profiles and starting again? Are the Nokias on the compatibility list?

HI Ray

How do I delete the profiles please?

The phones are on the comp list.

I haven't found the need to do it, but the manual states that the "Telephone" option in the display has:

􀂄 Phone book

􀂄 Dial number

􀂄 Call register

􀂄 Voice mailbox

􀂄 Messages

􀂄 Bluetooth

􀂄 Settings

􀂄 Back

In the menu Bluetooth you can select the following menu points:

􀂄 User - the overview of the stored users

􀂄 New user - Search for users who are in the reception range

􀂄 Visibility - Switching on the visibility of the telephone unit for other devices

􀂄 Extras

􀂄 Headset

􀂄 Modem

􀂄 Phone name - the possibility to change the name of the telephone unit (preset SKODA-rSAP)

In the User section, you should be able to delete the existing (two?) users and start over. If you struggle, let me know and I'll go and try it out. HTH :)

Many thanks, Ray it's all sorted now. Got my original phone to work. One of the settings had seemingly reset itself when the battery ran out but it makes no sense as to why my new phone now works.

It seems that this system has little ghosts that come out to play every now and again!

Thanks again Ray, much appreciated

Had my superb for 2 weeks now, bought a new blackberry curve because that works with the columbus and rSAP....all worked perfectly for 2 weeks then whilst driving I noticed the columbus unit seemed to 're-boot', the skoda logo welcome screen came on then it went back to 'normal'....but since that event, the phone won't pair any more.

Am going to try to delete all profiles and start again...

You can only delete profiles if you have a phone actively paired up....I think!

you could be right, there's nowhere in the menu's (that I can find) to delete profiles.

I changed the name of my phone to create a new profile, I entered the 12 digit number, it says it's pairing then basically falls asleep and does nothing, now it tries to search for both profiles but says there is no active paired phone(!)

I restored factory settings hoping that might clear the memory..but unfortunately not.

I'm going to the dealer to ask them the to a full re-boot/hard reset to see if I can just start again. I think it's premature to ask them to start swapping out parts, I suspect this isn't a hardware fault but is more software related...over time I hope skoda may release an update/solution..

will inform you all of my progress...

SimonK,

I have the BB Storm and this too has rSAP. There was an initial problem connecting it like you said. I had to delete the profile. If you go into the MFD and the Phone setup and bluetooth and users you should find the user profile for the phone you connected in there, as described by Ray above. If yes delete it. Then pair it to the phone again. One thing is you changing the bluetooth name on the phone does not mean a new profile in the columbus. They are different even though the initial name is the same on the MFD profile and the Bluetooth recognised name.

As for your lost connection I have found that if the BB connects beyond a certain number of times to the car consecutively that the connection will eventually fail. If you pop the battery from the phone and turn it on again and then start the car the phone should get picked up again. I have to set my BB to auto turn off and on every night and the connection to the car has not failed since I did that. The only issue I have now is that the auto on on the BB storm doesnt work properly and doesnt restart the phone so I have to power it up manually.

Try removing the battery before deleting the profile. Appologies if you have tried the battery already.

Dave

Dave,

thx for joining the thread..

I con't delete the profiles from the MFD, the only options I see are search, connect and SOS. How do I delete the profile in the car?

I've now turned off and removed battery from BB but still no luck in connecting...

any more clues? is so annoying as it worked perfectly for 2 weeks.

Regarding the help I got from the dealer, worthless, they eventually said there are no supported BB's and gave a list of about 40 phones which were supported, mainly motorola, Nokia, siemenss or Sony. I can't believe Skoda are ahead of the mobile manufacturers on technology..

cheers

In the bluetooth menu on the MFD have you this list.

User - the overview of the stored users

New user - Search for users who are in the reception range

Visibility - Switching on the visibility of the telephone unit for other devices

Extras

Headset

Modem

Phone name - the possibility to change the name of the telephone unit (preset SKODA-rSAP)

In the user menu it should have the current user that your BB is assigned to. Delete this user and delete the rSAP from the bluetooth devices on the phone. Turn everything off and on again and start as if for the first time and connect the phone. Once OK regular offs and ons on the BB help the link of the phone to the columbus stay very consistent.

Reply if the menu is the same for you as above to see if you are in the right menu.

My list under MFD shows only as follows

MFD

Audio

Navigation

Phone

Settings

I can't find 'bluetooth' anywhere, I guess it should be under 'Phone'? but I only get search, connect and SOS :(

My menu's are different/limited?

thx in advance

Sorry just checked.

The bluetooth menu appears under phones only if the phone is connected to car. Have you tried deleting the rSAP in the BBs bluetooth devices and try the new device option on the MFD.

Just thinking out loud.

If you add another phone (say basic Nokia) it might let you into the bluetooth menu so you can delete all the users profiles that were created to start from scratch with the BB. If this works best to delete the rSAP device on the phones Bluetooth.

you could always go to the dealer, have them hook it up to the PC and get them to wipe it that way. It's what I did as I had lots of profiles from trying to get my HTC Touch Diamond to work on. Flashed my phone umpteen times, chaned the BT stack and still can't get it to work properly.

Pg 133 of the manula says about pressing the telephone button on the wheel for more than 10 seconds to erase the mobile , this may be worth a try

Well spotted! :)

Ray

latest update..

I trried pressing the phone button for 10 seconds + ...but it didn't do anything, thx for idea though (don;t see that in the Dutch manual)

I decided to RTFM (well part of it at least) and it said the car can only hold 3 profiles..so i loaded colleagues nokia's in (all worked easily and perfectly) and deleted my profiles as the profiles went above 3.....sounds good so far....I then removed battery from BB, switched back on, search, try to connect, mobile asks for the 16digit code...but the car doesn't provide it, after trying a few different guesses, starting at 0000111122223333, it just comes back saying "phone is not compatible"

I see my future with an earpiece..unless Skoda do some sort of firmware upgrade... :(

  • 1 month later...

Hi Guys

It seems you have all had the same problem as me, just updated the firmware on my BB Storm and now it won't connect, although I can add another user. Couldn't find anywhere to delete a user until realising that you have to have a phone connected to see the bluetooth menu.

First things first, the original firmware on the storm has it's problems and is very slow when moving through applications. It also has a number of lazy applications meaning that it keeps consuming memory and not releasing it when closing the apps. One solution to this is to take the BB Battery out for 10 secs to reset. The other is to upgrade the firmware. You then need to add a patch for the key lock as it screws this up. It works like lightening after this but won't connect to the Columbus.

Answer: Connect another phone, delete all profiles (and hence stored numbers). Then search for another phone to connect and immediately afterwards go into the BB Connection Manager, Add Device and ensure you choose 'Listen Mode" or you will not see the 16 digit code needed for pairing. It may fail on the first instance but will work the second time and thereafter.

Couple of other tips, tick the box so that it remembers never to prompt you to connect, and if you have a pw for the sim, ensure that you choose the save option in MFD rather than ok, or it will keep asking for it.

Anyway, that's my giving done - now for receiving....

What does the auto open function do on the Superb 2? Is there a sensor in the key to unlock it or does it go really sexy and open the door for you before presenting a glass of champagne??? Really bugging me...

Finally, did a master reset on the MFD and now the car beeps when I unlock and lock. How do you turn this off?

Jimbo,

OMG, that's fantastic!!!!!

I've using a curve and didn't update my firmware or anything..BUT have just been able to re-connect to the Superb and downloaded my contact list etc.

I think the magic of your solution is in putting the BB into listening mode..that's the only thing new that I did..but so far, so good....

as for your reward..unfortunately, I have no clue to either of your questions. Is the beep on open/close just inside the car or external like when setting a car alarm etc?

cheers

Finally' date=' did a master reset on the MFD and now the car beeps when I unlock and lock. How do you turn this off?[/quote']

I assume that the auto open function is meant to unlock all doors with one press, instead of drivers door with the first press, then the rest. Doesn't make any difference on mine, either!

The beeping should be fairly simple. Go to the Setup Menu, then select "Comfort" and look for ATA Confirm - switch that off, job done. :)

Ray.

locking - just been out in the car to test it out ....

manual - this denotes what happens when you press the buttons on the key fob - ie does it open drivers door or all doors etc

Auto - this denotes what happens when the car is driven. Auto-lock - the doors all lock at about 8mph. auto unlock - the doors all unlock when you are stationary and you take the key out of the ignition.

I tried it with the auto lock functions ticked and unticked and it behaved exactly as it should (for a change with my car !!)

hope this helps
