was only in november when i hit a speedbump the wrong way and put a hole in my sump which ended up with my car being trailered away and me catching the train the next day dressed as batman (i was at a fancy dress party).

earlier tonight, i took a road i thought was in good condition only to hit a dip where a section had been replaced but wasn't smooth into the rest of the road which resulted in my car crashing into the tarmac severely, it came down with such force i instantly remember that cold november night and pulled to a stop immediately, dreading the worst i peered under the car and oil was pouring from the sump so pulled over into a very nearby opening to get off the road. was only about 100yds from where i hit the road and walked back to se what i hit and surprisingly very little to see except where car made impact. i wasnt even going fast.

luckily i have a new sump in the car so its just a case of buying more oil as i've all the other required parts.

maybe i should raise my car lol

Oh dear...

Sump guard?

can you get sump guards for the fabia? i remember some talk about them a while ago but didnt think it went anywhere.

oooo uh oh!

You can get sump guards, but also you can get a baffled sump made on an exchange basis, and mine was re-inforced which might help too :)

Are all Scottish Fabia drivers either lunatics, idiots, or suffering from short term memory loss?

It must be the thin air......

How low is your car??

I have a metal sump guard and a re inforced sump ;)

Your car must be low to do that, that easily.

I'd be more inclined to blame the roads.

Most of the roads in around Edinburgh are a joke, always full of potholes, dips and vicious speed humps which are prob not to spec.

One problem with sumpguards/reenforced sumps. They can't change the laws of physics. If your going to catch it something has to give, either the sump or the engine mountings. Trick is not to catch it which may involve you not lowering it to a level where it will get caught. If the roads are crap then don't do it.

Trouble is Mr KTP, I fear you adding a sump guard will mean it will be permanently dragging on the ground. ;)

 good call Jase!

ouch!!!!!!! Time for a new set of wheels and a sensible ride hieght perhaps?

i'm gonna take a guess at the lowest one in the uk, i dont think anyones got their car as low as mine.

possibly all of the above

i'm thinking reinforced sump may be the best way, the hole in it was only slight so repaired the first time, its hit tthe same spot again and destroyed the repair

my thoughts too plus i havent seen one but i get 2" of ground clearance at the most.

wheels will stay as i love them, considering raising it a little, even 10mm would make a huge difference but i like it being low so perhaps see how long the new sump lasts

i generally take care on crap roads but this time i didnt even see the change in road surface until i hit it!

I'd be inclined to agree with you on that point. ALL the roads in the UK are an absolute disgrace now.

I've just had the alignment done on my Fabia due to uneven tyre wear that was probably due to unavoidable pot holes everywhere. Wish I hadn't bothered now tbh, as in the dark on unfamiliar roads, the inevitable 'crashing' is and has been unavoidable, unless you're plodding along with a man with a waving red flag walking in front of you.

I'm going to start carrying a camera around with me, and will be taking up a new hobby. Pot hole piccies, to forward onto local councils for compensation.

Bloody hell ive never bottomed out tht bad lol and mine is pretty low too prob only bout 10mm higher than yours (hard to say as i have only seen pics)

Reinforced sump is the way forward i think

KTP, ive seen some lower fabias myself and my last car was a mk3golf cabriolet lowered 120mm all round on 14inch alloys, i dont think it is the fact of how low your car is although certainly it doesnt help, lol as many other posters have said in this thread the uk's roads are disgraceful!!

aparently it takes on average 65years to redo a road however i am unaware to the trueness of this.

also i have to say your fabia looks realy good with the colour coded grill, alos where did you get the czech plates from?ive been searching for ages with no avail, please pm me

I reckon your car is begging for an airbag suspension conversion! :D

Ouch! Standard ride height for me Im afraid , even if I do get a vRS , i dont intend to have to crawl over speedbumps at 2mph to stop my car scraping over them!!!

I never had any trouble with my vRS when it had Eibachs, and they lower the car by another inch compared to stock vRS height. There are some crazy speed bumps in the UK. The bad stuff for me is mostly the motorways that have massive potholes and bumps in every lane, and sliproads where a piece is missing.

For example the sliproad from M4 to the A329(M) when coming from Newbury/Reading direction, just before joining the 329 you have a piece of concrete missing. The gap is about 3-4 inches wide, around 2 inches deep, and quite wide (about a foot). It has been like this for ages. Helpfully it is just where you would be driving if you don't know about it. I'm sure that's cost a fair few tyres.

ouch....... and looks like an oil slick that would put the exxon valdez to shame......

managed to repair it and get the car back on the road with fresh oil and a new filter.

if anything at least its forcing me into regular oil changes :D

still got a new sump to go on but two of the bolt require a long ball ended allen key, which i dont have and couldnt find anywher open today that sells one so will need to get one on tuesday and possibly swap over the sump next weekend or just wait until it happens again.

i'm going to name my car the sump destroyer.

i'm gonna take a guess at the lowest one in the uk, i dont think anyones got their car as low as mine.

I know a Polo that catches on Cats eyes?
