Midlands Meeting 25th May Nr NEC

Hmm. I gotta face the fact I live somewhere you can leave your keys in the ignition overnight with no worries, so an anti-theft aerial would really be a waste of cash. Still love the whip though. I mean, er, er, I like the look of the whip you attached above (quick re-cap) *oo-er missus!

So the big question is, Stimps - what super-duper aerial has replaced these whizzy bits of kit? Spill the beans ......

Heh - now i've realised that halfords sell a black version of the "styling whip" I'll probably get one of those. Although the richbrook is pretty nice it's definitely more styling-orientated and not radio-reception orientated!

The Halfords whip picks up various BBC and local stations ok, so will probably stick to that...

Ooooh, I like them both! /me shall bring plenty of coins ;)

I Like that Silver whip ariel , I amy have to nip down to halfords this weekend and purchase one! Oh and its been ages since I heard about Paul Hardcastle , I have the album that 19 came from , and on cassette too , how 80's is that!(well 1985 it says on the label!)

I can remember listening to the vinyl single... But let's not confuse the youngsters! :D :D :D :D :D

How many of those silver whips have you got, Stimps? It seems every man and his dog likes them and wants one off you... Do I get first call for showing first interest? Or is there going to be an impromptu "David Dickinson" stylee auction in the Malt Shovel car park? :D

Wasnt the old Top Of the Pops themetune by Paul Hardcastle as well.

IIRC it was called "The Wizard" - You know, the one they used for about 10 years..

Wonder how much he made on royalties?? :D

Stimps

That jogs my memory Yep , ive got that too!

Fabia Tdi

You are correct , it was him , and it was called 'The wizzard'!

Well, I reckon Jason has first call on the silver Halfords 'whip'

Any takes for the richbrook one?

Chaps,

I am thinking of having one of these Bee Sting aeriels as well, like the tasty blue anodized ones.

Can't seem to get my bugger off, so can someone show me how at the meeting on the 25th, it would be an idea as we are discussing it.

Oh I just put on the 12" remix of Nineteen by Paul Hardcastle, well ard for 1985. Bet you didn't know that he was one of the forerunners to the hip-hop scene. A proper mix-master was monsieur H and well handy with a fairlight sampler, I can tell you.

Nice geezer as well according to one of me mates who met him!!

Wonder if he drives a VRS.........if he does it'll be 0-60 in well under n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-nineteen seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:drive1:

Yes, 1985 does not seem that long ago. I have that album tool, on good old vinyl. I think I also have every version of 19 that was released on 12" although I dont have the 7" version.

And remember the version by "The Commentators" aka Rory Bremner, 19 not out I think it was called, A spoof version using English cricket as the theme.

Ah yes happy days - Rory Bremner's commentators were some of his best impressions - used to love his Richie Benaud.

1985? Hmmm *thinking back* - I think I had only just shed off my toddler jumpsuit and was starting primary school :D Although it has been a classic phenomenon for me that the older I get the faster tham time seems to pass (and the "1985 was not so long ago" feeling materialises)

If someone has that Hardcastle song on CD, can they bring it to the meet and I'll have a listen? Ta. (I could be really cheeky and ask if someone has a laptop with a CD-RW drive, they could bring it, and I'll bring some blank CDs to raid someone's collection)

Jason - IT'S NOT THAT GOOD, HONESTLY!! :D

Well, maybe I can see what else I can nick off someone?

Perhaps I should start a thread "What CDs do YOU have in your Skoda?" - with a PS, just so Jason can nab some at the NEC meet :D.

I have some CDs full of MP3 albums if anyone wants some - about 20 CDs with 9 or 10 complete albums per disc. There's some quite rare stuff in there, like live U2 concerts from Gothenberg/New York, etc. I have a list at home if someone wants to enquire.

Jason - start a "what CDs do you have in..." in the lounge, before this thread gets any more off topic! :-)

I can do that, although I dont have laptop with cdr drive. I'll put all my versions as mp3 onto a disk and bring it along.

Back on topic, Will we make 20 memembers? Perhaps rather than just turn up at the pub a table should be booked. I can see it now, table for 20 please.

Right - It'll be done in a few minutes! :speaker:

Hope nobody minds, but it looks like I'll be bringing LPJunior with me as the wife has now got to work Sat and Sun. He's a little petrol head (only three and a half and he can name the make of most cars and bikes) so will love looking at all the nice cars :D .

Darren

Jason I have a copy of the Best Of Paul Hardcastle on CD will try and remember to bring it along, so you can get a burst of "old skool" (aye!)

Thats of course assuming my RS isn't on 1 cylinder by then !!

Can you get a rubber band conversion I wonder......mmmmmmmmmm:D

Funky - I wonder if a hamster wheel conversion would help. They never seem to stop going around and could probably generate a decent rpm. sorry :( to hear about all the problems you're having - Its most annoying to see someone else having so much trouble when my car's been so (fairly) reliable - New turbo is the only significant thing, and that was done so painlessly, and with plenty of customer care, such as ringing me up when the turbo was not in stock, and re-booking me in. They even picked my car up from work in Exeter, and brought it back too. ideal :)

25th?

Yeah, should be able to make it... :D

Rob.

Err - Is anyone up for booking a table at Malt Shovel - Even if 20 cars turn up, there's every chance there'll be more than 20 individuals... There's at least one 3 1/2 year old turning up, I assume not driving his own car :D

I also remember someone talking about actually doing a convoy to some other pub... Perhaps some clarification from funky is required, as he's organised this meet. I wouldn't want to start seeing people going over his head and organising other stuff too. I think maybe a "NEC MEET 25th MAY ITINERARY" thread is required? Don't want to be too organised though, do we? :D

Booking a table (or 5) at the MS might be a good idea... probably better staying there than going to another pub and all trying to get in... :)
