It's Blue!!!!!!! WARNING LOTS OF PICS

Featured Replies

I have blanked out registrations and house numbers in the interests of Privacy and stopping myself being swamped with requests for detailing work

Well having been away the past couple of months and with work commitments prior to that i haven't given the car a good clean for a good 6 months or more. The last time i used the Wonderful ProShine that you were all soooooo jealous about and it took me about 1hr 30mins or so.

However today i have spent 7 hours cleaning the car (and i still aint finished it yet)

Like all good military tacticians i decided to tackle the problem from the inside out. Cos i got a bit giddy tho i forgot to take some after pics of the interior (although in my defence i haven't actually finished it got some final touches to do) that took an hour to hoover alone (bloody dog hairs:mad:) anyway 2 hours later the interior was done. I then spent the next 5 hours doing the exterior. The products i used were:

Water

Hoover

Sponge

1 Bucket (I like to live life on the Edge )

AutoGlym Bodywork Shampoo

AutoGlym Wheel Cleaner

AutoGlym Intensive Tar Remover

AutoGlym Super Resin Polish

AutoGlym Ultra Deep Shine Resin Polish

AutoGlym Extra Hi-Gloss Protection Sealant

Meguiars Endurance Hi-Gloss Tyre Dressing (Also used this on all the rubber seals around the doors and Hey presto no more annoying squeaks!!!!)

ProShine Carnuba Wax Glass Polish

AutoSol Metal Polish

About 20 Microfibre Cloths

Now i know that when Baker21 see's this thread he is going to be absolutely bricking it. But Baker i promise i'm not gonna take your buisness away from you i much prefer my other Job so you can breath a sigh of relief:P

All that's left now is the finishing touches to the interior and the Engine Bay. So about another 3 hours work tomorrow.

Enjoy

look at the shiny shiny!

Nice work! She she she shine on!

Same stearing lock as me :D

Very clean and tidy! :D

Nice job

Looking good! Did you do all the polishing by hand?

Same stearing lock as me :D

They are good aren't they. I doubt it takes the 17 minutes to get into they claim but its a good visual deterrent if nothing else

Looking good! Did you do all the polishing by hand?

Yup i always do all the polishing by hand. The good thing about the Ultra Deep shine polish is that its a female dog to get off hence you get all the haze marks. Plus i made sure the car was out of the sun as much as poss. No doubt i'll go out today to finish it off and see a load of swirl marks and hazes :D

Really do need a clay bar cos tho as there are a few light scratches

Carl:thumbup:

Nice work :thumbup:, however I can fathom out you live at number 107 or 111 of whatever road in whatever town/village or whatever county in this country. ;)

Who said that i was at my house;) i may have just borrowed a random driveway :P

Looking Good

clay bar doesn't do anything for scratches.

clay bar doesn't do anything for scratches.

It's only really a prep of the surrounding area ready for polish isn't it? (Still learning kinda)

  • Author

By scratches i meant light swirl marks etc

Cheers

Carl:thumbup:

I think the same still applies? clay glides over the surface and removes contaminants, but only a polish will actually remove the swirls. I reckon this is what the two Autoglym resin polishes you used should have done.

claybar is used prior to polishing to try to remove as many of the contaminants (like tar spots and the like) on the paintwork, and so avoid any further scratching or swirls of the paint... it should leave the paint feeling like a sheet of glass after claying ;)

oh and should only be done i believe a couple times per year **still learning too :)

  • Author

Maybe they are scratches then

Oh well i'll just keep polishing it and hopefully they will all go away :D

Carl:thumbup:

assaid clay only cleans and removes virtually everything taking you back to untreated paint/lacquer so that you can polish/seal/wax onto a perfectly clean surface :)

Wow, what a difference

Well done that man...just shows what a bit of hard work can do

Have the rest of the weekend off :)

Cheers

Damian

Very clean Carl. I miss my old Blue.:(

Carl:thumbup:

The AG polishes you are using are Filler polishes, the resin should fill the valleys and make the scratch/swirl appear less, it will come back after time but another coat will re-fill the gap.

The only way to remove them completley is to use a cutting polish which will bring the level of the surrounding clearcoat down to that of the bottom of the scratch.

A post I put up in another thread shows it better in pictures.

This Is what you have (Assuming swirl type scratches):

paintcoats6bj.jpgswirlsunlight0ft.jpg

Fillers like AG SRP and colourmagic do this

filledswirl7lw.jpg

and eventually wear away

swirlloosingfill3tq.jpg

Cutting back with an abrasive polish, partial cut:

finish cut:

fullyabbraded5re.jpg

A widly available product, off halfords shelves is meguiars scratchX which will take a bit of elbow grease to get where you want but if its only localised then shouldnt be too bad. Just remember once you have cut back the topcoat to reapply a finishing product such as a wax or sealant to protect the open wound :D

Theres a good thread on hand swirl removal here: ** Swirl Removal By Hand - Test ** - Detailing World

and our own polishing guide here:http://briskoda.net/styling-car-care/car-care-guide-how-polish-your-car-hand-machine/116125/

Pics pinched from tyresmoke.

I like it. These cars look very good in Blue. I noticed from your list you use a Sponge to wash it, I'm sure I have read that it is the worst thing you can use to wash it with. I think you have also missed something on your long list, some Elbow Grease, lol.

I have one of those Disklok things. I actually got it from the Police about 5 years ago. This was because my previous car was quite easy to break into and the police targeted these old cars to improve security, it was about half price, £35. The other advantage over other locks is it covers and protects the air-bag.

Ok for some reason i cant seem to post again in the other thread so im hoping that a MOD can merge the 2 threads ta very much.

Well i spent about 2 1/2 hours today cleaning the rest of the interior (which took about 20 mins) and the rest on the Engine Bay.

Now not wanting to risk using a pressure washer (i have been told you can if its done from a bit of a distance however i have already had one water related prob which took over a week to fix so didn't risk it)

Anyhow i stripped the following from the Engine:

Engine Cover

Battery Cover

Battery

EVOMS

EVOMS Tray

Old Air Intake Directional Thingy at front of engine (Im pretty sure thats the Technical Term!!)

Not wanting to go any further (Just haven't got the time or i would strip the whole thing to the block) I set about firstly cleaning all the dirt off the engine and under the bonnet using Hot Soapy Water and a Microfibre Cloth. I also used some white spirit to clean any really bad grime that the soapy water wouldnt remove. Once this was done i then set about cleaning the bits i had stripped off (less the battery as didnt want to damage it). Left them out in the Sun to Dry and took EVOMS Filter inside and cleaned that with some Oxy Action Vanish stuff. Just put in 1 Scoop fill with boiling hot water and let it all fizz out (about 20 Mins) then rinse with hot water to make sure no Oxy Stuff left then dry off (i used a hair dryer and it took about 15 mins). Once that was done i then set about applying a Silicon based rubber & plastic dressing to revitalise the bits in the engine and give it a better appearance.

I've included some pics of the Interior and of the Exterior in the Sunlight. Very impressed that there wasnt a Haze Mark in sight and the Swirls are indeed light scratches and i only found a couple so very impressed with the results from the AutoGlym Stuff
