It's clear plastic to protect that part from stone chips from stuff thrown up from the front wheels .....take it off and after a while it will look a lot worse

Its on all of them, its to stop damage caused by stones. That area of the octy2 is especially prone to being stone damaged, Both of mine have marks caused by stone impacts. I would rather a few marks in a protective coating than rust.

Removing them could also void your paint warranty as you are removing a piece of protection that was deemed neccessary by skoda.

Oddly the new facelift octy does not have these, but ,maybe they have improved the corrosion protection in that area.

Cheers I thought it was to stop stone chips but I cant say Ive seen it on many other's

It is there!

It looks like yours may have discoloured slightly, they should be clear and almost invisible.

I thought mine was a perfect paint match...lol never realised they were clear....Another school day!

i pointed it out on collecting my car thinking they had damaged the car and stuck a black sticker over it to cover something... was soon corrected...

Hey T1000..i've been meaning to ask this since i got mine last year..question answered ..thanks

Leave them on, mate, especially if you venture off tarmac sometimes or they gritt the roads in the winter. The sills on my other car are shredded after a heavy winter and some trips on forest roads.

I've got these on my estate. But I would have thought Skoda would have put them on the rear bumper just aft of the rear wheels. There is at least a billion stone chips under there.

Every Octavia (except the vRS and Scout) leaves the factory with rear mudflaps fitted to prevent this.

Why would they not put mud flaps on my vRS :confused::confused:

Why would they not put mud flaps on my vRS :confused::confused:

Perhaps because mudflaps are boring, practical, and dont fit in with a 'sporty' image? I havent seen and Octavia mudflaps as far as i can remember, so dont know if this is the case or not.

As for the stupid little stickers, i must admit that i thought they were body coloured, not clear. I meant to take mine off because there was a line where the polish had got against the adges but now i hardly notice them so have left them/forgotton about them. I will probably whip them off when i get round to it - been meaning to get the car detailed so will probably see what the detailer thinks best.

I wont accept in any way that they are necessary due to stone chips, unless someone draps me a picture and backs it up with substantial evidence of the terrible damage that can occur without them :). I have never noticed any damage to the areas covered by this on ANY of my other cars and cant remember having seen them on any other cars before, so have come to the conclusion that they are totally pointless! ;)

That area of the octavia is at high risk of stone damage, the nicks and dinks in my protection coating are testimony to that. Had the coating not been there then there will have been stone chips in the paint, and possible rust formation. Removing the protection will invalidate your 10 year anti corrosion warranty, it would be more sensible to either replace them with non discoloured ones, or remove the discolouration as mentioned earlier.

They are clear, not body coloured and should be almost invisible. If you look at this picture of my car, you cant even see them but they are there.

Why would they not put mud flaps on my vRS :confused::confused:

.... because the rear bumper of the vRS is of a different design to other trim levels and the mudflaps for the Elegance, L&K etc. won't (officially) fit and Skoda (I guess don't want to do a mudflap specifically for the vRS. :thumbdwn:

However, now that with the facelift Octavia, Skoda appear to have put the vRS's rear bumper on all cars, maybe they will now produce a mudflap that will fit?

I hope so because my rear bumper is getting quite damaged underneath due to all the chips.

Might be worth keeping an eye out for these :eyepop:

Here you go then - an EVO with less than 10K ion the clock!

Look on rally cars lots of them have some sort of protection just in front of the rear arch's for this reason, on a gravel road (or one which has just been 're-surfaced' with chippings) it can take just a few miles to strip the paint off.

Every Octavia (except the vRS and Scout) leaves the factory with rear mudflaps fitted to prevent this.

Octavias in Australia don't come with mudflaps. They weren't even available as an option in the first 6 months, then they wanted $100 for the privilege.:thumbdwn: I got some off eBay for $40.

Almost took these off when I was washing the car the other day, glad I didn't now! mine are really filthy around the edges and some muck has crept in under the sticker. If I ever can be bothered to detail the car I will replace them.

when i bought my second hand octavia 2 from the dealer it didn't have these on so i asked them to put them on. They didn't make a good job of sticking them on and the edges started to lift so i took it back and when they went to peel them off the adhesive is that strong on them it pulled the paint off and it then had to go in to be resprayed. So if your gonna attempt to take them off be very careful or you could end up with a hefty re-spray bill. Luckily they took mine off so they also resprayed it free of charge

Sport doesnt have mud flaps either, same bumpers as the vrs.

Not sure whether it should matter or not - but perhaps i should have specified FWD cars. I have NEVER had a problem with stone chips in this area and the very fact that this is the first car i have owned which has had them suggests that either:

1) They are needed as a specific result of the shape/aerodynamics of the car

ot;

2) They are simply not necessary.
