Intelligent Indicators!

Featured Replies

Just figured out that if you press your indicator a little bit then it flashes three times and then turns off!

Does anyone know of any other secret style gizmo's that our cars might have?!

OH there is plenty. If you have the ventilation system on and reverse in a diesel the car puts the system into re-circ mode to stop nasty fumes being drawn up. Also if your wipers are on at the front, and you put the car into reverse the rear wiper comes on. Various others can be put on with VAGCOM

Colin

I like the idea of the rear wiper, :)

Would that be limited to the cars with the 3 wipe trick ?

Would it be wothwhile producing a list of "hidden " tricks ?

1) Anti Hijack

2) activate / deactivate beep when locking car.

Ooooh the anti hijack thing sounds cool, whats that all about? And the rear wiper thingy, how do you get that working, don't think I have that?! Also I'd like a beep when locking the beast, how do I get that working?

Hicksy,

You do have the rear wiper action, its standard. Anti Jacking is a mode where at speeds of over 10 mph the car will lock itself, and unlock itself when you remove the keys.

Im not sure on the indicator flash wheather its a coding or not or a component change, its been a feature on Audi for a number of years and it very handy I think. Be nice to code it up.

Oh right, well I'll be trying that out next time we have rain! This anti hijacking thingy, not sure if I have that though, haven't noticed any doors locking when I've been driving?!

Sorry if i'm being completely stupid :o

Ignore Ross. He's far too sensible.

Hicksy, machine guns pop out from behind the lights and train on anyone wearing a Burberry baseball cap within 500 yards. I think you need VAG-COM to set it up though :(

Me sensible?

Anti Hi Jacking will need to be coded into your system Hicksy.

Will this invalidate my warranty? Can you get something that lays banana skins so they spin out like on Mario Kart?

Who can code it?

:D

Hicksy

A dealer or anyone with VAG COM.

oh right, ok thanks!

Invalidate your warranty? I wouldn't have thought so, this is a dealer fit option on the Superb. I think Kentish has it.

Re: banana skins. Only build September '04 onwards I'm afraid :(

One of the guys here activated both items above for me using a VAGCOM

The anti hijack locks all doors once 10mph is exceeded, on stopping and taking the key out of the ignition the drivers door automaitcally unlocks. The switch on the drivers armrest still works. i.e if you stop to drop off passengers use the switch to unlock the doors, this lets them out, when you pull away over 10 mph it locks again. If the passenger is impatient to get out , they pull the handle to unlock, release, then pull the handle again and the door opens.

maybe a friendly member with a VAGCOM will do this for you. :)

Steve

The beep was activated, single beep when locking car, double beep on unlock.

The rear wiper thing is standard on all cars from the beginning and the early V-reg models. The anti-hijack thing does sound good- no doubt my dealer would think I was silly if I asked him to do it!

IIRC to get the 3 flash indicators you need the updated ECU it isn't activated with VAGCOM

Does anyone know if these little tricks work on the Octy?

  • Author

Guessing I have the updated ECU then!

Calling anyone who has VAGCOM.... :D

Preferably in the South area ;)

Cheers

Maybe it's worth compiling a definitive list of things. I would most certainly like to know if my 52 reg Fabia can have certain things activated or not. The 3-flash indicator thing caught my interest. Anti-hijack again interesting..

but if someone wants to start a list for example (below is not deemed accurate - just for illustrative purposes) stating:-

Feature............ Car Model........ Year Introduced..

Anti Hijack........ Fabia............ 2000+

Auto Rear Wiper.... All.............. 1998+

etc..

it would be a nice thing..

Regards,

I am very very intrested in having a beeping noise when the key fob is pressed (simple things please simple minds) can it just be done with a vag com? if so there's 20squid in it for someone in milton keynes :)

Locking can be modified so that one press of the 'zapper' will unlock all the doors instead of just the driver's door. Normally, to unlock all the doors, you have to press the zapper twice. The locking can be coded to beep twice when unlocking and once when locking.

Don't forget the automatic boot locking without having to use the zapper if you press the middle button to unlock just the boot. Very useful when taking the shopping trolley back after dumping the goods in the boot. Just don't drop the keys into the boot before slamming it shut!

Your dealer should be able to do all the coding you need - they might even do it for nothing.

Oh, I like the sound of that bit :D

Will be looking in to that on me next days off

If you ever venture out of Bexhill to South Hants, I'll do it for you ;)

Chris

how much are these VAG-COM thingies and how complex are they to use? Looks like something I really could do with :)

Also, if anyone fancies earning a few quid, why don`t we try and set up a mini meet at the weekend (say sat) to get these things sorted out, one person with VAG COM and the rest of us with a few complimentry beer tokens!

I am north London, but anywhere within say 100miles would be doable . . . .

Cable can be made for 30-40 quid or you can buy them off eBay, but the real killer is the cost of the software. Check out http://www.ross-tech.com/ for the official source of their cables and software.... note the VAG-COM software can be downloaded in an evaluation form which only allows you to read data from the car, and not make any changes. Also best to have a laptop too ;)

Well I'm in Andover which is probably a bit far, but if anyone wants it doing and is local, give me a shout :D

Chris

Oh, and re: how complex.... it all depends on how good the codes you've been given are ;)Here is an interactive demo so you can have a play and get the feel of the software :D

Chris

Andover, crikey! I little bit too far as I am sposed ot be in Norflk that night! I don't think the gf would be to pleased . . .

Will look at the cost of it all, then I can charge my VAG owning mates for my services ;)
