A friend of mine has just purchased a Lotus Elise 111R.

It seems to be a bit of a Marmite car or is it jealousy?

What do you Skoda owners think?

Love it ,Hate it or indifference?

I'm a big fan. I considered buying an Elise a couple of years ago when I was after an 'impractical' replacement for my Clio. I have a couple of friends who own them and yes, am jealous :)

If I was able to use an elise as an everyday car I'd be at the dealers now.

Really love these cars, dunno what they're like to live with but I'm sure I'd forgive the leaky roof and pants stereo and manual windows etc, etc etc just for the thrill of driving an amazing small sports car that goes as well as it looks.

When I first saw the James Bond underwater lotus scene as a wee nipper I always wanted one and it's never changed.

Who? ;)

I Think us Skoda owners must apprieciate a 'giant killing car' All models of the vRS have upset far more expensive machinery at some point!:D.

The Elise, is far from practical but for all those who have driven one I couldn't think of any car for the same money that would be as quick point to point or around a track. With maybe the exception of Caterham etc.

Love them, but I'm under the impression that they are not good as a day-to-day car, in terms of both practicality (obvious) and reliability...

Isn't LOTUS meant to stand for "Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious"?!

The only reason I haven't got one is because I can't afford one...

SWMBO's dad has a '76 Espirit :)

We had a bit of a do with lotus at my work a few years back. We all got to have a little play on the airfield with them and i'm now a huge fan of them. I'd deffo have one as a nice little track car.

^^^^ Great picture! :)

I am a bit biased LOL

Love everything about Lotus (probably why I'm up to 3 now).

Am keeping my fingers crossed the new Evora does well.

For any Scottish owners keep yours eyes open as the public launch is around the trossachs this weekend I think.

Cheers

I drove an elise a couple of years ago and was a bit disappointed to be honest. It didn't seem to instantly wow me. I reckon with a bit more time I might've grown to like it but on the day I enjoyed myself more driving a Mini Cooper S.

i would have perferd ago in the one at the back  :D

Been there done that, felt ill for about 3 days. :thumbdwn:

Would love an Elise personally. Should be reliable enough with the Toyota engines but too impractical and a bit on the pricey side. I like the Caterham as well and, don't laugh. the Morgan Classics. If I hd £25-30K burning a hole in my pocket I would have some hard decisions to make.

They are a good car without doubt, but for every day use? I think the MX5 will win there )

love the elise, handles beutifully in the right hands, but will bite the unskilled hard when they mess up.

 Love the Elise (never driven one :rotz:) and the Exige too. Looks as mad as a bucket of frogs.

One of my dream cars is a Caterham 7. I was looking at them on Petrol heads classified last week. It is crossing my mind to run a banger day to day and have a 7 in the garage for the weekend.

Talking of Elise's.

Sis-in-law's fella has a Millenium Edition (special edition model) that he's looking to part with. I think Stu had this model and sold here, so a Freedom membership is one consideration.

Does anyone know if there is a Brisky equivillant for the Elise that have a classifieds section - even at a fee? He'd rather sell to an enthusiast than some Kev or con artist via autotrader.

I`ve owned 2 Lotus`s in my time first i had a Lotus 7 which i loved but part ex it for a Lotus eclat which was a dog, it leaked everywhere, the breaks were rubbish and the interioir was worse than a Citreon for coming apart.

I still love the history behind Lotus and what Colin Chapman achieved.

Amazing machines. My wife got me a day out at knockhill for my birthday and it was an elise they gave me a bash at and let me tell you this.........................................

AMAZING to drive!!!!

power delivery is orgasmic!:)

It's a pity they were as expensive to buy

I saw one in Aberystwyth on Saturday similar to your dad's one babs. It looked and sounded great. I like the Elise although I have yet to drive one!
