Fabia vRS - Loud intake noise - help!

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've had my vRS since new (March '05 - 44k on the clock).

Full main dealer service history, last one less than 1k miles ago.

Anyway, i'll get to the point.

Under acceleration, whether i'm doing 5mph or 50mph, the induction noise from the engine is a lot louder. There is no loss of power or any other problems...

... What could it be?

I've just spent close to £700 on it including the service (new brakes all round) so I can't stomach another few hundred!

Help!!!

Thanks.

I'll take a stab in the dark and say the normal intake noise. They're not the quietest...

I would normally agree but it's recently got quite a lot louder, maybe I'm just going mad!

Mine sounds like a hoover, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Check for blocked air filter, check air filter lid is fitted correctly and not leaking. Check all vacuum hoses for splits or perishing. Check EGR valve is working as it should.

my bet is the air filter has dropped down inside the airbox thus producing an induction type noise... especially since it was only serviced 1k miles ago.... give that a try :)

I have just bought a VRS and think it sounds a bit loud, used to a MK4 Golf but there is a hissing noise on acceleration and when i checked the Turbo pipes some of the joints seem a bit loose. Any common faults known on this?

The clips are well known to wear out and consequently at high boost pressures the pipes often pop apart. Quick visit to a Skoda dealer for them to replace the clips quite often sorts this out, alternatively you can look in to buying some non-standard hosing :)

If its any relief for you, mine has always made a whooshy-whistley sound when you really floor it hard in the main torque band around 2200-2700. Normal driving doesn't make this sound, and I, however, quite enjoy that sound!

Me too, in fact I look forward to the "summer" when I can drive with my windows down and listen to the suck!

It's mainly on tick over or if the car's getting manouvred into a parking space I notice it. It had a timing belt done at the dealer recently and I wondered if they had maybe not got one clipped back in correctly. Do they take the front bumper off for this job?

exhaust falling off?????

Not that I know of but while I am under there, I dare say it's worth a check.

Following on from above I decided today I better have a look. I split some of the pipes and there are rubber seals in there, some seem to be a tighter fit than others which I can't explain but nothing is disconnected and with the engine running (although I didn't have anyone to rev the car while I fiddled about) ther is no noticeable noise from any one of the joints. The exhaust is fine and I checked the air filter just for good measure and it seems fine, could do with a new one in my opinion (don't agree with this 60k or whatever thing) but I will get this done when it gets serviced. I assume you must be able to buy the rubber seals in the joints but I wondered if anyone else had to do this or maybe it just sounds like this. It's not that I don't like it, just don't want to be drawing unfiltered air anywhere.

Cheers for the replies so far, anyone any other ideas?

60k for an airfilter??

what :o

its 10k!!

on the fabia vRS skoda replace the air filter at 40k or the 4th annual service-whichever the sooner....

yeah!!!

I would say 10k or annually is about right....

like you say, they aren't expensive...

Thanks for that, I knew it was more than 10K but sort of put it out of my head as I knew I would be doing it at 10k anyway. anyone any other ideas about seals etc?

yeah sounds like boost leaks from the standard hoses... basically these are shiite....

my bottom hose popped off the intercooler the other night (knackered clip) went to skoda.... £80.... stuff that... 4 self tappers to hold it in place... et voila... probaly better than ever... might do this to all the connections :D

Sounds stupid but did they put the cold air feed pipe from the grill to the airbox back on after the service? I only ask as I took mine off yesterday to see if there were any noticable power gains and the induction noise made me put it back on again. Deep throaty noise. Sounded like I had a blown exhaust. ie.... Crap

Good luck.

Tez

Yes the cold air feed pipe is fine, just wish it was a Pd160 one but it's attached OK. My clips seem OK too but just not sure te rubber seals are sealing properly, wondered about a smear of something like instant gasket before I re-fit them? Any opinions?
