Best tyres for vrs?

Featured Replies

Bought a 55 plate 06 black pearly furby a few months ago from someone in work - unmodified, only 22k on the clock, and used as a shopping trolley / 6m commuter by its previous owner.

The front tyres are coming up to requiring replacement - they are Bridgestone Teranza er300 205/45 r16 83w all round.

Given that the back ones have plenty of tread left on them, what do people recommend for the front?

thanks

Depends what you like to do with the car. Replacing with more of the Bridgestones isn't the worst thing you can do.

Hello and welcome to this forum.

If you do a search, as it's a common question, then you will find most people on here mostly recommend Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 or Toyo Proxes T1-Rs. However if you want a slightly cheaper option try Kumho KU31 or Falcon 452. You can either buy these from a tyre place or get them delivered from the net at Mytyres, Blackcircles or Camskill.

Another vote for the Kumho Ecsta Sport KU31 - I got a couple fitted and balanced at the weekend for £65 a corner to give you an idea on price.

Oh and just to avoid confusion I think Jim H means Falken 452 (not Falcon)

just swap front for back if front ones are not really worn.

I'm currently on pirelli p nero's on the fiat, I ran them on the vRS too, very impressed with them, had F1's before, very impressed with them too :) OE on the fiat were bridgestone re050a, bloody good tyre, but expensive....

I used KU31's on my previous car. They were a good cheap option, and seemed to last fairly well. They were not that good in the wet tho. Toyo T1-R were slightly better and lasted awhile too.

I've got bridgestones on my vrs currently and they are ok. you could do alot worse and probably alot better,

uniroyal rainsport 2 are good

Another vote for Rainsport 2's here as well.

Always go for rainsports on my car's.

Goodyear Eagle F1's. Ive got 220bhp and 527Nm of torque, they are the best tyre I've had so far

Thanks for the advice.

I bought the car to replace a company volvo V70 as have changed jobs and am currently commuting Mondays and Fridays down from North Wales to Aberaeron in mid west Wales - lovely windy A and B roads :-) Lots of trees down there, so come the end of the summer I will travelling a lot on wet and leaf infested windy roads - so am looking for something that will perform well for fun in the dry, but will give me a nice safe drive in the wet. Ideally a tyre that is a bit quieter than the bridgestones as I find them a bit noisy. The front tyres are nearing the legal limit so not really an option to swap them to the back.

Are these Kumhos ok for the standard wheels? Running Contis at the mo and not impressed: wear quickly and not much grip.

Mine are the standard 205/45R16 83W IIRC

Try a 215 in the same size and see what you think

Thanks for the advice.

The Bridgestone Turanzas are pretty decent. You'll see lots of recommendations for Toyos, Kumhos etc., but I'd get Dunlops for longevity and fuel economy, Bridgestones for a performance compromise and low road noise or Goodyear Eagle F1's for ultimate grip if you don't need to use the car in the winter (they can be very poor in the cold weather). I'd avoid the Continentals if you think the Bridgestones are noisy. The Fabia has quite poor road noise suppression unfortunately.

The Fabia is a superb long-distance car, I did almost 65,000 miles in mine in 2 and a half years before customer expectations made me get the Passat for work use instead. You'll love it.
