Just looking for abit of info on them, ive had 4 vag cars, each and everyone seems to have a live cigeratte lighter even when there is no key in the engine, i tend to leave my extension plugged into it and it runs my sat nav wire and phone charger, will this drain the battery or is it dangerous in any way shape or form?

Drain from satnav and phone charger is so little it doesnt really matter. Unless ofcourse you leave your car unattended for a perioid of time it might drain the battery. I'm guessing a phonecharger and satnav (both idle) would be around 300mA max. With a number like that its around 8days before the battery is empty. I may be wrong though

i have a laser detector plugged in mine 24/7 and only use the car 30 mins a day and some weekends not at all. The only thing that has drained my battery was the car fridge we had for a recent camping trip but thats drawing 60w which is a lot. personally i wouldnt worry small things like car chargers and sat navs dont need much current and providing the battery is in good nick it be like leaving an interior light on.

phone charges I would imagine shoudl sto drawing current if the phone is not attached (apart from what is required to run the LED). Same for sat-nav chargers. I think it would take ages for these to drain the battery, but for piece of mind stick an ampmeter in series and see what readings you get.

My cigarette lighter goes off when I remove the key. If I sit in the car and listen to the radio with the engine off and the key still in the ignition it stays on for about 5 minutes until there is a click of a relay or similar in the dash board at which point the Electric Windows and the lighter power down. The radio stays on.
