A few more cosmetic tweaks..

Featured Replies

Well the cosmetics have finally come together on the car!

Some of you may know that I'm off to Le Mans for the 24hr race next week, and it's tradition that our group always sticker the cars up. To sticker the car up, it needs to be waxed (to aid sticker removal/prevent paintwork damage), and there's no point in waxing it when it was swirled so badly it looked like it'd been washed with a brick... so a good friend of mine came up from Wiltshire to help me sort the car out as best we could.

It took all weekend with him doing the majority of the work as I was still in my cast and struggled to do much. We used Menzerna Intensive Polish with two Porter Cable polishers using Sonus SFX restore pads. Then some Poorboys "Black Hole" show glaze was applied using the PC at speed 3 and worked again with speed 4. On top of that went some Wolfgang sealant (can't remember which one off the top of my head). Still to do is a coat or two of Collinite (think it's #476 but could be #815) before the stickers go on. I also need to take the wheels off and seal and wax them.

Yesterday I took thebrymar's advice and had my rear windows tinted by the same guy he used in Lincoln. The tint is a little darker than I wanted/expected but it's difficult to tell on the testers.

I have also had my grille painted which I got back this week and fitted this morning.

Anyway, with dirty wheels and in the rain, here it is!

I also fitted a new vRS grille badge as when I got the painted grille back it really made the badge look terrible as the colours were peeling away!

So, as always, what do we think?:thumbup:

Couldn't believe how it morphed into a blue Corsa part way through your pics !

Hope you're not too disappointed with the tints - I thought he was fantastic VFM - pricewise maybe I'm just lucky that he does an estate for the same price as the hatch

I am happy with the tints.. they're just a little bit darker than I think I wanted. I guess I will get used to it and warm to them, I haven't seen the car when it's cleaned/dry for a proper idea of what it looks like, and I've never had a car tinted before so it was quite a big thing for me. As you know I wasn't sure about having them done so I'm just being overly critical. I am happy though, honest!

I have a few different things to put on the car, a few LM stickers, some rather large tyresmoke.net graphics, our group logo, some RAF style roundels and a few other bits and bobs. Possibly some stripes but one of the lads has already viper-striped his car and don't want to copy him!

It's gonna look great, will post some pics up when it's done. Really need to finish the car off and it's horrible weather so I can't :(

BTW I'm registered on DW but I don't go on there much. With 5 forums to keep up with I struggle as it is! Do you think it's worth posting on there?

looking good ben , not easy in a cast either.

No mate it wasn't! As mentioned, my mate did most of the work paticularly on the sides of the car. I did the bonnet, boot, rear quarters and the tops of the doors.

I'm out of my cast now but in more pain that I was before. Doctor says I'll be in pain for 3-6 months :(
