Nice VW Bus!

Featured Replies

Spotted this parked up at the local garden centre. It was absolutely immaculate, a stunning example of an original VW bus. There was a lovely ornamental shrub inside to boot!

I know, I looked round for one about 4 or 5 years ago. A mint condition 13 window splitty was about £30K back then!

Excuse me while I search for my Beach Boys album - now where was it ?

Was in Devon the other year when there must have been a camper convention going on - saw dozens of them just outside Paignton - the kids love 'em

What an awesome spot Mr Pitt. I salute you.

There have been some commendable examples over here at the weekend, what with the festival and all.

Virgin ?

That a lush bus , I'd love one of those , shame about the price , even Bay Windows are starting to cost big money now in good nick.

Ps is that a MkV R32 beside it in Black??

That is very nice indeed

Good spot - yes, it is :)

With the original Disc brakes symbol on the bumper - very sixties

D Reg 1965 ?

But only a 1.2 -1.4 engine ?

Personally, I'd prefer the T2 with 2.0 litre (Only 90 BHP) engine.

Though IMHO, when carrying a decent camping load and negoiating hills, you really need an injected engine with a blower developing + 100 BHP. Although that said, I've known the normally aspirated 1700 do 120 on the downhill bits of the M40 at High Wycombe.

Brazilians are still making them ? Personal import ? Hmmm ?

This reminds me of something I have seen in York a couple of times now.

It is basically a suzuki carry or similar that has been done up to look like a VW camper! Made me do a double take the first time I saw it!

Will get a snap if I'm not driving next time.

Very nice camper btw... a bit of drool just slipped out the side of my mouth!

Saw a mint condition old VW beetle cabrio today.. love them too!

you can get mini replicas from Japan based on a Subaru micro van. They're called Subaru Sambars.

That's just wrong!

Someone owns one of those over here. It looks completely normal when it's heading towards you, but when it goes by it feels like you are in a magical hall of mirrors!

Cute but impractical

I'm pretty sure there's a company that imports them. I was driving through Cumbria a couple of years ago following a 06 plated vw bus.

Danbury: Danbury Motorcaravans - THE VW TYPE 2

Yep! I saw a beautiful example near Gunwharf Quays a couple of weeks ago, a real stunner. It was only a couple of years old but the stickers for Danbury confirmed my suspicions.

I think they have the 1.4 75bhp watercooled engine in them now , which just isnt right!:thumbdwn:

Yep they are imported from Brazil. New kit, new builds. Actually bumped into an old sales manager of mine at the outdoors show. His wife runs a new vw camper rental out of hereford somewhere.

Reasonable rates too given the romance. People take them down to france, spain as well as cornwall etc, being new kit, they run well.

IF i ever win the lottery id love to buy a T5 based Camper (i drive an '08 panel van for work) but may just cosider one of those danbury T2s

I must be the only one who doesnt like these. Ive have never liked them:O

Yup... think thats the one!

Wrong but sooo funny! :rotz: :P

Funnily enough I saw one of those subaru ones 3 days ago in the distance and thought maybe VW had gone mad and restarted making them as a city car/minivan type thing. Truly horrible...:rotz:

supercharged 660cc engine tho? hmmm

But there's was always something going wrong with the aircooled.

On the 1700, no sooner had you got the twin Solex carbs pulling together, than the bl**dy things would go out of balance, primarily due, I think to a defect in the design of the balance tube. And in those cicrumstances the exhaust would carbonise-up very quickly to blacker than a black thing can be. The Push-rod case seals would leak at the slightest provocation as did the tranny seals and that long-linkage on the shift was always a bugger.

Agree the front-mounted rad on the Braz T2c does not look right- why they couldn't have gone for a split rad design using the existing air intakes ? - I can't think that the VW Brazil re-tooled for this, so they must have shipped the stamps from a back-lot at Wolfsburg. That being the case they were probably unwilling to make any significant design changes.

I presume that the 1.4 is in-line and IMHO 75 won't give it enough grunt, fully loaded, for the hilly bits.

Although nice, I don't think the Danbury makes best use of the interior space - always reckoned the Westphalia design. But Wesphalia went ponto, I believe.

Requested a brochure, just to have a look !
