My dealer sold me this oil for Fabia VRS top up

Featured Replies

My dealer sold me Shell Helix Ultra 5w -30 top up for My fabia Vrs. Now when ive just been looking at the list of oil this is not on it. Will this do any damage to my enigine as ive been using this to top up??

Thanks

If it covers the 505.01 VAG standard, than it is suitable for you car. If the bottle does not state clearly, that the oil covers the standard, then do not use it.

too late i have already been using it :rotz: it doesnt cover the 505.01 standard on the bottle. I imagined a skoda dealer would know what oil to give you. Only reason i looked is cos the engine has started to sound very loud and tappy more than normal. Is it likely to cause any damage after i used that oil? Thats the last time i use a dealer.

If it does not cover the 505.01 standard, yes. You should change it ASAP, but do not do a 'flush', because it can cause damage also.

really annoyed now  is that the likely cause of the tappy engine? better check what oil went in on the last service as well. Although it was serviced by nationwide autocentre.

Doesn't meet that spec.

thanks for your help. Ill be going back to the dealer tomorrow. Will never be using them again

"Although it was serviced by nationwide autocentre."

Presumably they did an oil change.

What oil did they use?

im going to call and ask them tomorrow what oil they did put in. If they have put the wrong grade oil in it what can i do? im really concerned now that it has damaged my engine :( it was serviced last september. You would assume that these places should know what oil to put in.

you would but havent found a good skoda dealer yet there alright selling you the car but after that thats it they wash there hands of you, pd engines r very sensitive so kick up a **** storm see what they have to say

I doubt that just a top up quantity of that oil could cause "tappy" engine. Check what oil was used when they serviced it the last time. If they used the same oil, then you should really be kickin' behinds.

ill be kicking behinds big style if the wrong oil has been in for nearly 10k. Anything else that could cause the tappy engine?

Skoda did announce a change in oils recently - they recommend long life oil now, the 505-01 was changed for this new one, will double check with my dealer monday as asked for a top up bottle and they said its been altered...

If you've been running the wrong oil for 10k, simply replace it with proper 505.01 oil and replace again after 5k miles or so, and just keep your fingers crossed.

I ran the wrong spec oil for a few thousand miles and just took the "ah well it's done now" approach... I haven't had any problems in the 12,000 miles I've done since so it doesn't mean CERTAIN death for your engine ;)

Get it changed and get on with enjoying the car ;):)

The only parts of the engine effected by Non PD oil, are the cam lobes and rockers that operate the injectors. Still expensive to fix, but it doesn't mean the bottom end is knacked. Dealer should know better though! :rotz:

Why do you think Nationwide Autocentres used the wrong oil?

I certainly wouldn't mention to the dealer that you have any reason to believe the car wasn't serviced with the right oil. It's irrelevant what other oil was used - a Skoda DEALER sold you the wrong oil.

Be nice, but be firm. Tell them that because of them you've put the wrong oil in your car and what are they going to do about it. Anything less than an instantaneous offer of an immediate free oil and filter change and I'd be straight down to the small claims website. They have a duty of care to sell you the right stuff. They are supposedly Skoda trained. It's extraordinarily unlikely that you have damaged your engine, but there has to be a reason why Skoda insist you use that spec. of oil, and you went to a Skoda dealer for the right oil, so they should put it right immediately.

And if you don't get satisfaction I'd be on the phone to SUK in Milton Keynes to complain you were sold the wrong oil. In fact, I'd do that anyway, as if you have any engine trouble in the future then it's a good starting point to have reported it at the time.

And I do think that for the good of everyone, you should name the dealer that doesn't know what kind of oil to sell for their franchise, so we can all avoid them like the plague.

what specs does it have on the bottle ?

does it have 507 00 / 504 00 ?

is it the VX version, cos if so.........

Helix Ultra VX 5W-30

Fully synthetic VW long life engine oil, for the latest range of VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda vehicles. For normal and long life use in both gasoline and diesel engines to date. Meets VW specification 507.00. For all specs, click for detail.

Meets ACEA A3/B4/C3

API SM

VW 507.00, 506.01, 506.00, 505.01, 505.00, 504.00, 503.01, 503.00 or 502.00

You do know you can top-up with up to half a litre (might even be one litre) of non-spec oil? It's in the manual...

after now checking what Nationwide autocentres use. They use the oil castrol magnatec 5w/30 A1. Now how much damage will this have likely done to the engine if its been in there for 10,000 miles. As far as i can see this is not the correct oil. Is it worth getting it checked out? or will i get away with that oil.

Thanks

if its not to spec id have it out asap !

The Morale to this story ! Don't use Nationwide Autocenters !!

Just another tale:

My lad has a Octy 1 TDi and it just packed up on him, we had a AA Warranty at the time, we phoned them for a list of there approved garages, the nearest was a nationwide place, so was recovered to there, followed the RAC to the garage, the guy there said he would get onto it asap, and phone (this was 09:00am) come 16:45 no phone call, so I phoned them expecting it to be ready, Sorry sir not been able to find fault, will phone you (cut story short) three days later, still did not know what is was, I said if you cannot find what it is (in three days) you cannot be much good, I went down with my car trailer picked it up and took to another garage, within 1/2 a day found what the problem was, ordered new part, fitted next morning, and all it was, was a Fuel lift pump !!

So I would not use N A again
