Steam playing MP3s

Featured Replies

Has anyone had trouble getting their Stream MP3 player in the Octavia to play MP3s.

Sometimes mine will "see" the files on a burned CD, the next day it just reports "error".

Anyone else got the same problem?

(Had a search but couldn't find anything on the subject..)

Nope, no problems with mine so far.

Maybe you've got a defective writer / poor CD discs?

What about the original (bought, not burned) CDs?

Bought CDs fine

Ripped and "burned as a Music CD" fine

MP3s burned not fine (although sometimes the machine picks up the tracks, sometimes not)

I'm at the dealers today for a whistling window, so will report back what they say about the MP3 issue too.

One question, does anyone know if there is a limit to which quality of MP3 the Stream will play?

I've burned at a bit rate of 320. The disks don't play in my player, the dealer said they don't play in another Skoda. However they do work in my friend's MP3 player (Panasonic)

Whats more, my friends MP3 disks play fine in my player more

Make sure the tracks are in MP3 format. I ripped some tracks as WMA (or something) - they work fine in my Walkman, but won't play in the Stream.

All MP3 files play fine on the Stream HU.

I had 320kbit files playing this morning. Mine has been tried with everything from 32-320 and it's all worked.

Sure you're using .MP3 and not windows .WMA or anything else?

Have you closed the disks? It might not like open multisessions.

What are you ripping with?

Could be the ID3 tags. My personal MP3 player is very picky about that.

Sorry, I read the title of this thread, and it made me think:

Yup. most definitely MP3 (not WMA)

I've tried Nero startsmart, express, burning room and windows media player. All burned as non multi-session and finalising the disk :)

Also changed file names to be short, no punctuation, no other characters but letters (no ! . _ ; , etc).

But still no luck.

Whatäs ID3 tags?

I'm sorry, it's summer, I was drunk.

Unless Simbo speaks Finnish , then his online translator is a lot more pointed than mine. My little freebie gem produced this:

"Sniff ****. Glorious vitun amusing mä laugh vitun considerably as possibly et say aught alien banning" Perhaps it knew what the untranslated words were but declined to translate? I'm 'saying aught'!

I'm sorry, it's summer, I was drunk.

All I can say to that is that January and February must be the height of the glorious Finnish summer, 'cos those are the months I was last there and most of the Finns seemed to be drunk most of the time! Oh and most Finnish taxidrivers seemed to think they were the next Stig Blomqvist judging by the way they took city-centre corners on ice/snow covered tarmac!

Söisin mieluummin salmiakkia

Anteeksi, en puhu suomea.

 I can tell you have visited here :)

It's stupidly hot right now, yesterday was 29°C, and today is heading that way :(

I still haven't got my own burned CDs to work though :(

My burned MP3s worked on neighbours car player

His Burned MP3s work on mine

My burned MP3s don't work on my player

Very frustrating

How old is the Stream unit? If it's not one of the later ones that says MP3 on the front, then it won't play them

Yeah that's the one! It says "MP3" on the front. (It's a 2008 Octavia.)

I will be bald soon, pulling hair out.

Thanks for the advice Mike. I'm not sure if the lazer could have dimmed so soon, as the car has only done 13k Km.

I'm still stuck on this problem :(
