help me! my car is scratched!

Featured Replies

In a recent thread (see below)

http://briskoda.net/styling-car-care/seat-leon-enhancement-detail/149862/#post1743027

reference was made to using wire wool instead of a clay bar. Now I thought this was a bt strange, but seeing the finish on the Leon and Baker21s comments, I thought it must be okay, so today I wire wooled my entire car and now I can't get it to shine even with SRP and collinite.

Did I do something wrong??

I have pictures but I can't find my upload lead...:(

you need to work the wire wool more eventually it will shine fine once all the paint is removed

I think they were refering too the exhaust John.

Not the whole car.

This is a wind up right ...........................

I don't think that'll work:confused: - in one bit where I was rubbing bit harder to remove some tarry type stuff the colour has almost gone! I'm probably going to have to get a touch up stick for that bit (which is fortunately down the bottom of the drivers door)

You are joking right?

I thought it was a method of removing scratches and swirls without a machine polisher - I wasn't pressing very hard...

wirewool and autosol on paintwork?!!!! :thumbdwn:

these are used to clean exhaust/tailpipe only.....

But the tailpipe was shiny with that combination:confused:.

What can I do to get the shine back then - it really is quite patchy now?

DeLoreans were not painted.... bare metal finish i believe.............

Without seeing pics of yours, my bro when little cleaned my Dads car with wire wool. This involved needing a respray!

I take it you wanted to start from Scratch with this project Johnny

Please tell me this is a wind up. I mean come on you not seriously that dumb are you that you wire wooled your WHOLE CAR

Carl

I think people have misunderstood this, this is my opinion; you haven't used the 2BM. You have subsequently ground dirt into your paint, hence causing scratching. ;)

Yes , thats my point !!!

I took this as a wind up meaning someone has scrubbed their paint with wire wool and now its dull, if true its a case of "step away from the car and pay someone with half a brain cell to do it "

Johnny, take it to your local supermarket, the guys in the car park with the little trolleys and a sponge are miracle workers when it comes to restoring shine to maltreated paintwork, only costs £3 as well

Please this has to be a late Aprils fools surely. If you have wire wooled the paint work don't expect any bed time fun for a while because a respray is going to set you back a few quid. Doubt swmbo will be amused...

If this is for real (and I doubt it very much) you would need a Paint Thickness Gauge to measure how much paint and clearcoat is left. If it's 90um or more, worst areas would need wet sanded with 4000 wet and dry used wet, then machine polished with a rotary and cutting pad with a cutting compound, then refined with a finishing pad and polish, followed by a coat of wax.

If clearcoat has been compromised, it's respray time.

Wire wool and Autosol is for the exhaust only

That's a helpful and technical post, as an aside, if you hold down the "alt" key then type 230 on the number pad then release the "alt" key, you'll get a true "µ" and you won't have to type "u".

:wrthless:

THANK YOU! you have no idea how often I want to use the symbol "mu", and its a pain to find.

µµµµ-chosas gracias!

Bas

That's OK.

Glad to be of some help, I use alt codes all the time, there are literally hundreds of them.

Useful.

I don't think this is a wind-up. I've read many of johnnycatbiscuits posts and I've formed a view about him and based on that I'm quite prepared to believe he took wire wool to his car's paintwork.

  WTF.....please tell me it's a wind up!!

I hear that Custom Tuning have gone into the Detailing Business. They are now called Custom Detailing & Tuning. Gary is the guy you want he is the Head Detailer.

If you post them your car they will detail it and post it back to you. They promise to do a Right good job of royally ****ing up your paint work. Then they will blame you for it all for the Bargain price of £99 :D

Sorry folks, been busy for the last 2 days with my daughter's 13th birthday party...

WJA96 - thanks mate, nice to see you appreciate my intellect and ability, let me know if I can ever do anything to help you anytime...

Mater, Gmaster, Moggytech and everyone else - yes, it was a wind up. I'm sorry, I was in a funny mood on Friday and couldn't resist following the post I read on detailing.

Oh and thanks Carl; for making me laugh this morning (with my hangover)

:D

BTW, I really am not that stupid!!
