Bucket seats

Featured Replies

:) Hi all, just a quick question, I'm trying to find a car that's suitable for my friend's son to learn to drive in. Problem is..........he's 6' 7'' and has legs like tree trunks! Even a Superb is too small! I thought of a 1.4 8v Fab because of the grp 2 insurance & highly adjustable driving position. Thing is, with seat right down & wheel right up, he still can't use the clutch & turn the wheel. I think if we put bucket seats in it, he would sit low enough for the left leg to clear the wheel. It would need to mount on the sliding mech as his Mrs needs to be able to reach the pedals too. Any ideas? Anyone done this themselves? Thanks, Simon

welcome along

Hiya. Have you thought about trying a higher spec model (Elegance or Lauren & Klemens), since they normally have adjustable height seats?

my mate is 6ft8 and he bought an octavia vrs for this very reason. he can sit in it comfortable enough AND get his children in the back, obv it doesn't have to be a vrs.

Limousine, Hummer, Lorry?

doesnt a limo have the same driving position as any other car lol?!

unless he cuts the passenger to drivers seperating window out and drives it from the back!

:) Yeah< its not just his height that's the problem, as I originally said. It's the thickness of his legs too! He's tried my Octys & it's fine untill he has to put his foot on the clutch, his leg jams under the steering wheel! An auto would be the answer, but he wants a licence for manual cars so that's out too! :thumbdwn:

Hmmm, bucket seats will be lower, but they tend to be rather hip hugging, so he might not fit in them.

What about taking the seat out and possibly drilling new holes in the runner so it can go back further, or welding in extensions and putting new holes in them.

Although if he had an accident and somthing bad happened. The insurance company might not pay out with a bodged seat.

Worth looking into though?

:) Thanks Mike, thought about that put the problem is, he won't be able to reach the steering wheel if he's any further back! Arms are 'normal' length!! I was worried about the figure hugging aspect too as he fills my Octy seats completely!! :worried: Not so good! I guess its looking like a van then!

Thanx for your thoughts.

Simon. :rice:

That would bring the wheel further into his lap?

Yup, but you would probs need to have an aftermarket steering wheel, with the same make of boss spacer, and then a boss kit for the correct car, eg fabia. (just so all the bolt holes line up)

The boss kit will be bigger than standard anyway, but with the spacer as well, you would be looking at (and im guessing) roughly an extra 4-6 inches further back towards the driver.

That would do it m8 I recon. It would be enough to bring the wheel past the front of his knee cap where it currently hit & back to a lower point. Pardon my ignorance but how does that not run out of spline? I've never encountered one of those kits!?!

You are indeed a star!!! Thanks, much appreciated! Going to sundays show is it a bit too far? Hundreds of miles I'm guessing?

Yea too far for me, 6 hours roughly.

Maybe next year if there is one, i will be prepaired for it.
