Cambelt due

Featured Replies

but it will not be done at a VAG franchise.

don't blame you..

I recommend you give Lummox at Unit 18 a call/PM - you might well find it very worthwhile

Fred when you get to the time try a VW dealer 1st, mine was £50 cheaper doing it at the local VW dealer rather than Skoda and they work that engine a lot more than a Skoda dealer does, so less likely to get it wrong, have the aux belts replaced at the same time, hth.

Cheers, I'm likely to use an indy garage to be honest. I intend replacing all the belts and the water pump, hopefully with a metal impeller one.

Where abouts is Lummox working? I'm near Crewe.

He's down near Northampton - seems like a bit of a trek I know, but I did it from Manchester for my cambelt and 4-year service. Financially worth it, and the job done by a couple of guys with loads of VAG experience. (and the scenery's nice too!)

Just quick comment from Finnish point of view. My -05 Superb 1.8T, 71 000 km on clock, was serviced last week at local Skoda dealer. I asked about cam belt change and the reply was that manufacturer gives 180 000 km age to belt but Finnish importer recommends about 90 000 kms (which seems to be inline with recommendations of other makes, little pessimistic though). As its a recommendation, they allow some variance to actual mileage and then try to fit the change to the nearest service triggered by mileage or time.

In my case service intervals have been something like >20 000 kms/1.5 year. So the belt change will go somewhere 95-100 000 kms.

I took my 06 Superb into a dealer for its 50k service yesterday it has 40500 on the clock.

I was advised that the cam belt needed changing as they recommend it be changed at 4yrs or 60k whichever comes first.

The car was over 4yr old when I bought it. So should the dealer have replaced it before I drove it away?

If it was a Skoda dealership I'd say they were obliged to do the job FOC as it should have been done on a 4 year old vehicle before you collected it. VAG dealers are very quick at coming forward with this recommendation. They cannot have their cake and eat it on this one. If it was a private or indy trader I'd say not, but I'm not a lawyer. HTH.
