Featured Replies

im currently looking at getting some big work done to my car wot sort of effect does it have on the price for insurance if you declare remaps ect? i didnt no wether to go with one of those firms who specialise in modified cars or just declare it with standard insurers, insurance companys usualy bab them selves if u mension the M word lol :-)

it can depend on your other details as well for the quote.

However it is advisable to always declare any non factory fit modifications.

Adrian Flux has several schemes that welcome modified cars such as rmaps etc.

ok thanx last thing i wanna do is get my car written off and lose loadz of money, am going to try adrian flux wen my renewals dew. :-)

Moral here is, DONT use insurance company monthly payments, the interest rates are high, there may even be a loan on the premium, and you can get stung badly for cancellation fees if you want to terminate very early on in your policy.

I am with LV and have an ongoing budget account, which used to pay my car insurance, the rate was comparable to a loan, the statements show clearly what you are paying ( what is interest & what is capital), and the amount left, It is all up front and clear.

Any changes i needed specially when changing car, were very easily done, all adjustments were explained clearly, and following statement was clear & concise.

Why cant other Insurance companies be like this ?

However now I am lucky eough to be paying such a relatively low amount, I paid in full up front fro my current car.

my insurance company has never stung me badly for ending it early infact i dont think that i was charged at all. i think £168 is a stupid amount for a £400 policy!

Although it wouldnt be the first time Adrian Flux have come back with stupid sums, they have never failed to quote me less than double most other insurance companies

can i ask what are AF's terms when cancelling a policy mid term

my friend is looking to buy a different car and the quote he has got from AF is hundreds more than other companies so he is thinking of cancelling mid policy

i presume its different if you pay monthly or up front as i understand its a kind of loan if paying monthly

Hi Brun

Cancellation charges can vary from company to company. Your friend should have details of the Insurance Companies terms in their policy booklet that would have been sent to them at the start of the policy. We would also need to look at the amount of money outstanding on the finance agreement (if any). Basically, the money we get back from the Insurers after Flux retain commission and a £25 cancellation charge is used to pay off the finance company loan. Sometimes it can result in a shortfall.

I could get a call back arranged for your friend if they'd like. Please PM me if required,

Thanks Dan

ill have a word, not certain he is gonna go for the car he was after, but the quote from yourselves put him off it at first as it was sky high

When I have cancelled my insurance policies I have never been charged. I am currently with one of the mainstream insurance companies for my Fabia vRS and it costs me £400 a year, thats for a 27 year old with 5 years NCB, fully comp with £350 excess and in a high crime rate area. All the other insurers were dearer apart from Directline but I stayed with them as I have been with them for years now and they have always reduced my premium annually and have given competetive quotes on my previous cars. In fact I have never paid more than £600 on a policy with them (that was when I was 23), and Ive insured intermediate to higher insurance group cars like Corolla GT-i16, Sierra XR4x4, Nissan 3.0 V6 QX, S40 T4, BMW 325TDS, Saab 9000 Carlsson etc

I really think its distgusting to be charged £168 to cancel, its bordering on pull your pants down extortionate really. What exactly does the £168 cover? Admin charges? The cancellation letter? Perhaps an all expenses paid fatcat's weekend in Monaco?

Most people pay thier insurance without fail and never make a claim, they pay it because they are being good citizens and lets face it, insurance companies never struggle, its compulsory to pay insurance so its not as if there is a shortage of people to pay it, and we always get penalised for other wrong doers such as uninsured drivers, vandals etc so why insult people futher and charge £168? ...that could be a weeks wages to someone. It Really is appauling to say the least, and it doesnt matter that its in the small print. There is so much small print in just about every aggreement these days if you were to read every single sentance you would never have a chance to lead your life - and that is where they get you.

Just my opinion anyway. I do hope you find a resolution to this and an acceptable premium.

Hi Colin,

Apologies for the delay. PM replied to.

Dan.

I think the problem will be that they are good with modified but terrible for standard cars! I've had quotes of over £2,500 from them to insure an Octavia vRS before!

In the same way that someone like DirectLine will be cheap for a standard car but give a ridiculous price for a modified car, if they'll quote at all.

For reference I have used AF from last year when i bought and started modifying my Fabia and haven't had any problems. Further changes to the cars spec have been added FOC with no hassle whatsoever. And while I had to haggle a bit to bring the renewal price down to match Chris Knott and then their own Flux Direct sister company I renewed without hesitation.

Car insurance has something to do with roundabouts and swings i think.
