the black power pack thing, not the laptop

why is it going to take two weeks? i got a new one in a day or two.

Dear me, Maplins would do you one off the shelf for £30-40!

Laptop make?

Is it the connector that connects the power supply to the laptop as if twisted/bent these often snap and all you need done is a new connector on it.

I wouldn't take it apart as some have some quite nasty capacitors in there. If you don't know what you're doing you can get a bit of a shock and if you try and fix it and put a cap in backwards you can get a nice fire.

As above maplin or one of many places sell either originals or third party supplies.

its a dell inspirition thing. the reason it will take 2 weeks is ive ordered one from hong kong for half the price dell are charging.

i did look at the maplin one but couldnt find one with the correct adapter.

Yup, dont pull apart. You should be able to test for a knackered socket using a voltage stick to see if theres power in the cable.

They do go, some makes more than others. HP seem to be poor from experience.

ive already volt checked it the power lead to the black box is fine, its from the power box bit to the end you stick in the laptop thats dead. just wondered if there was an internal fuse that could be replaced.

Nah, to repair costs more than a new one usually. We bin all ours that fail.

Have you a voltage stick that glows/indicates voltage? That would prove if the box is dead, as you'd get no indication on the cable out of the box.

Like this - voltage tester pen - Google Product Search

It will be the connector on the end I would expect as I've seen loads of these.

They are pence *if* you can manage to get hold of them, but I couldn't when mine went.

I'd also be very careful about the imported PSU units and make sure it really is the real deal.

the green light on the black box that holds the transformer doesnt work either so its something within the box. the guy im getting the new on from has good rating on ebay and i have emailed a couple of the people who have bought similar and all are happy.

Yep my work HP one went this morning! - you can see the break in the cable next to the power pack but to replace it will need the power pack breaking apart.

Maplins!

Maplins would be great, but 40 minute drive away, well in three different directions and three different towns :P

there's one in oxford, on the botley road.

I have a similar but different problem to yours. I didn't know whether to start a new thread, but still, here it goes:

About 6 or so months ago my father tripped over the power cable on my Laptop and broke the power socket. I have now eventually got round to getting it repaired at a local shop where the socket was replaced. The computer works OK on mains power only but when you take the lead away, it shuts down. There is no light on showing that it is charging.

Anyone any Ideas?

It's a Medion MD 96640 laptop for your information.

probably a knackered battery.

on my laptop im using at the moment its had 3 new batteries and two power packs. my current one which is 18 months old is awaiting power pack 2 to arrive.

3 Batteries?

Are you running on mains lots and over charging them or using so much you've exhausted the drain/recharge life? Most laptop batteries have between 600 and 1000 recharges before they diminish quite dramatically like mine. Ok one day, next 30 mins, and now only 5 mins a few weeks later!
