Featured Replies

Just Pre Ordered Windows 7 online at pc world - Just wanted to ask if anyone else who has ordered theirs from PC World if they know when they take the money from your account, will they take it now or when they send out the goods in October.

I have noticed that Amazon and Tesco Direct have put the price up now to £79.99 and comet and currys have now sold out.

I ordered it a couple of days ago and no cash has been swiped yet, so i'm assuming it's when they actually send the product out.

cheers dave

I think they have buckled under the strain? it comes now as "due to heavy demand it is not available"!

Was only ever a limited offer.

I'll stick with Vista Ultimate until they sort out the upgrade process rather than fresh install.

I'm quite looking forward to doing a fresh install actually! PC has been running for well over a year with Vista now (longest I have ever gone without a fresh install on any operating system!) and although it's running very well will be nice to clean everything out and start fresh.

Plus looking forward to running Vista on the Media PC rather than the pretty un-stable XP MCE.

You are so like me lol

At £80 that's a lot of money when I'd bet the OEM version will be less than that.

I think this was just a trick to try and prove the IE free version works in europe myself.

cheap Windows 7 pre-orders were available in the US also, they still include IE. it's more likely a pure marketing ploy

Nice

seems cheap , works as well , just pre ordered mine , dont actually need it but, hey lol.

There's not brilliant feedback on the retailer if you read further down, but hey - worth a gamble!

Says that it's expired on the voucher page.

Bloody good price though if you could get it for that but yeh also read some of the rubbish reviews of the retailer.

There is no 'upgrade' in Europe due to the IE issue. It will have to be a clean install or nothing. The install does not include IE8.

I suspect that just after launch, the usual sources will have ISOs of the non E version available to download. The keys for the E version will work with the non E version, so it will be possible to upgrade, just difficult and time consuming.

PC World have now put their price up. I want to order the Professional version, the last time I looked it was £88, now its over £100.

I don't get why anyone would want IE included though. I wouldn't want it on my system anyway and would use vlite to strip it from my iso, but personal preferences aside, if you did want IE, you'd be better off downloading it fresh anyway, such that you're up to date without unnecessary patching.

But it's then pretty inconvenient for normal home users, who perhaps just with one home machine. How do they then easily download a browser onto their new, clean copy of Windows 7?

I just think it's European bureaucracy gone mad.

Steve

C:\Windows\System32\ftp.exe :)

Seriously though, I would have thought it must still have iecore in for talking to windows update servers. I assume it'll be done through that.

I suggested a Gopher client to get people started ;)

But would the EU then have a moan about the type of Gopher client that was provided :D

old skool :D

I'm guessing in order to get internet exploder it will be done through windoes updates or something?

It is a bit silly for the average home user though who doesn't care what browser they use and just want to use one straight away.

Phil

But without IE, and no wizard, how are you meant to get online with an EU Win7 copy?

Have ordered my copy from Play, Have been using 7 Beta & now the RC versions, had no probs it loads up and runs better that the copy of vista that came with my notebook.

Must remember to download chrome web browser so i have connection when 7 goes on.

Glad the E version is not just an upgrade on top if vista, it would chomp up more drive space,
