New Car Key

Featured Replies

I lost my car key so I have to use my spare at the moment, but my question is, can I go to a VW or Seat garage to get a new key cut or will I have to go directly to a Skoda garage to get my new key cut?

Thanks in advance

Skoda's by far the best bet? Why avoid a Skoda dealer to go to another VAG dealer?

Either way, you'll need the SUK code that came with the car on a plastic tab and normally on the spare, do you have this code? If you don't it makes the process a little long winded and means you can only get a spare from skoda. The code programs the immobilizer to the new transponder in the new key.

its not that I'm avoiding a Skoda dealership, its just that there are other VAG garages closer to me and it would be more convenient! what is this SUK code? what does it normally consist of (i.e how many numbers and letters)? really not sure where this is!! if i don't have this does this mean an additional cost? hope not!!

I'm not sure how long it is as I don't have mine! I'm sure another member will let us know ;)

If ya look in the owners manual there's a picture of the plastic tab it's printed on in the key section. If you don't have this I think it will take longer to do as Skoda will have to obtain the code and I don't think they can simply send off for it any more.. it's my understanding that they have to hook your car up to a computer to reprogram both your new key and your old key into the immobilizer, but I could be wrong.

My car came with one key and no code. I should really get a spare but in the mean time have got a key cut at a local place for a tenner so that if I lock the key in the boot I can get it back out... and If I loose the key I don't have to break in to move the car over to skoda for a re-program. I will have to pay for a tow though ;)

You can go to any VAG dealer. All in all the key and programming will cost about £125. Shop around of course. It can be done a lot cheaper if you buy the key from ebay etc. and find someone who has VAG.com to programme it for you. Hopefully someone on Briskoda near you will volunteer to help you out.

The key code has 17digits, if you haven't got the key code with the code printed on it it may have been written in you handbook by a previous owner. The missing key code can be obtained by a VAG dealer if you give him your VIN no.

thanks to everyone for your help, iv found the tag now and I'm gonna take a trip down in the mornin to see what they can do for me, thanks again

The SKC is 4 digits, not 17, that's the Immo ID.

The SKC is four digits, the VIN is seventeen digits and the immobiliser serial number is fourteen digits.

The missing key code can be obtained by a VAG dealer if you give him your VIN no.

I was told this is no longer the case and that not even the dealer sees the code any more.. it goes straight from Skoda's computer into your car..

Can anyone confirm this as if this Isn't the case I'll be down Skoda tomorrow asking for my code and buying a fresh transponder from that specialist on-line!.. and then probably just gaffa taping in to my spare blade key! lol!

I knew what I meant ;)

Dealers don't see the key code any more. Not sure if they can get it if they want it (probably). With the right tools it can be extracted from your ECU or instrument cluster.

I wondered what those other 4 digits were.

this may be different for the octy but the (do not lose) code i got with the car is the last 8 digits of the VIN can anyone verify this?

The code on the key tag is the 4 digit SKC and the 14 digit IMMO ID.

Just make sure it's coded properly. Friends of mine were selling a car and lost the only key. Towed the car to VW to get a new one. However if the alarm went off it couldn't stop it. The only way was to stick the key in the ignition and leave it all night open!
