Warning- Lowering your Fabia VRS may also cause involuntary rectal discharge

Featured Replies

Well, had my first erm... "experience" of the perils of driving a Fabia VRS on coilovers this weekend.

I work in animal health and we were due to have a stand at a local livestock show, so I turned up at some farm, and saw to get into the car park ( a field) you had to go up a litte tump off the road and in.

Now the entrance was very narrow, and had huge massive rocks sticking out the earth and was lower at the sides as the tractor had been in and out and worn down the sides quicker, leaving a mound of earth and boulders in the middle.

So I managed to get in OK by going veeeerrry slowly and sort of angling the right hand wheel over the middle.

However when I got out the car I looked underneath and could see the undertray was actually touching the grass! So knew I'd have a challenge getting out.

Time came to get out, moved slowly to the entrance, went slowly over at about 2mph and SCCCCCCCCCCCRRRRRAAAAAPPPPPEEEEEEEEE I grounded out - what do I do do I get out do I go back do I carry on?

**** it. In British style, I carried on..... SCCCRRRAAAAAPPPPPPPEEEEEEEE. Looked behind me expecting to see a gush of oil and warning lights coming up any minute...

NONE.

a very very lucky escape all was needed was a set of replacement boxer shorts.

Haha nice story!

Glad you survived to tell the story of your first low adventure!

my undertray left the car long ago lol. I think there is still a fair old bit of gap between the actual engine and the tray. still lucky all the same

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Probably just the subframe [fingers crossed] which can take a little slow-speed scrapage.

Get a lower strut brace - that then becomes the lowest point on the car and you'll scrap on that as opposed to the car itself.

Yer the lower arms are the lowest part tbh and i lost my undertray too :)

Tell me about it........

lmao

Tractor's ' R ' Us sprong's to mind:thumbup:

I once took a wrong turn whilst out marshalling on a road rally in my Dad's old Toyota Avensis. It became aparent that I'd gone the wrong way when the boulder lined track, that you'd struggle to cope with in a Land Rover, became very steep and rutted. the track went downhill and then started to go back up at a ridiculous angle.

Took me best part of an hour to get the car out by turning nearly full lock up the sides of the ruts to try and lift the car high enough to drag it over every single rock.

We looked underneath the next day and it was fecked big stylee. Every floor panel was dented, anything plastic was either hanging off or gone and the best bit was the exhaust, it went from being a 2 inch circle to a 1/2 inch wide oval where it got squashed under the rear beam.

Luckily, it was a company car and my Dad was due to leave the company about a month later. He just gave it back and no one said anything

Reverse out slowly? If it went in OK that way..........

As requested :D

I know what you mean about scraping the underneath, I scrape mine almost on a daily basis, I'm sure the speedbumps and kerbs are getting higher.

I went to the Pickering Steam Fair last weekend with my sister and her little boy and scared her to death with all the scraping coming from underneath the car

Hello ultra_joe88,

Can't say much more than the obvious, lowering suspension ??, going off-road ??

Even if suspension were normal, you had a fight on your hand's, did you learn anything from this experience ?? LOL

Just glad no real damage except pride taking a small knock eh ??
